If Luke Skywalker had gotten his hands on Mace Windu's light saber and used it in his final battle against Darth Vader. Do you think it would of been better for story line purposes. The Jedi who nearly toppled the Sith 20 years ago, light saber is now in the possession of a Jedi Knight who is a direct threat to the empire. Kind of brings things to full circle and makes Windu's lightsaber a representation of fighting for freedom/democracy and civil order.
It is an interesting idea, Luke cutting off Vader's hand with the saber that that was cut from Windu's hands by Vader. But honestly the green lightsaber and that fact that Luke crafted it himself as part of his journey to becoming a true Jedi Knight are just too established within the framework of the narrative for me to really get on board with something else.
Didn't Mace' lightsabre go out the window of Palpatine's office? If it did, it would have been dented to **** by time anyone found it. If Luke got his hands on what was left, he'd have better luck tying some string or a leather strap to it and another chunk of metal and using it as a bola(s?).
"Several early incarnations of the character have been developed in the original Star Wars drafts as the narrator,[2] Princess Leia's brother and Luke Skywalker's friend.[3] Through the process of redrafting and copyediting, his character was removed from the original trilogy (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) but was reintroduced in 1994 when series creator George Lucas began writing the prequel trilogy."
Even so, Mace Windu, Badass Sith Fighter, definitely wasn't in the film at all. If there was going to be an 'ancestral weapon' it would have been Yoda or Obi-Wan's.
Still not in ROTJ though....just a concept that only a few people were aware of and not the same character we saw in the PT.....Luke having his lightsaber would make no sense.
You have to much time on your hands..... “You’ll know you’re making real progress on the Sith path when you go from being suicidal to homicidal.” Darth Revanus
the name was in various incarnations of the early scripts as well. the character wasn't made until ep 1. then he was named mace windu.
How would it be relevant? It's just a lightsaber. Either way, it fell on CORSUCANT. Luke had never set foot there. If anything, Vader could've used Obi-Wan's saber to taunt Luke. That would've been interesting! Yoda's fell on the Senate Floor after he fought Palpatine. Obi-Wan's was on the Death Star when he got killed by Vader. Vader may have had it, so Vader should've used it!
Exactly. Names shift around a bunch in the original SW script drafts. In the '74 rough draft, for instance, you have General Luke Skywalker as the wizened Jedi mentor/surrogate father figure (think Obi-Wan), and Annikin Starkiller as the brash young novice Jedi-in-training (later Luke Skywalker).
Luke constructing his own lightsaber was a significant step in his journey as a Jedi. So, no "ancestral saber" would have as much impact. Also, if it was just someone else's saber, we wouldn't get that exchange between Luke and Vader on Endor, where Vader actually acknowledges how Luke "leveled up".
Vader: "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete. Indeed you are powerful as the Emperor has foreseen." Yoda: "No more training do you require. Already know that which you need." These quotes speak for themselves.
Luke using Mace's saber would make about as much sense as this. Look at Obi-Wan's expressions at 1:54.
