In Episode V, we see Luke being lured into Vader's trap as he steps into the carbon freeze chamber room, where he is confronted by Darth Vader.

During the duel, we see Vader fling Lukes lightsaber out of his grasp as the hilt lands at the bottom chamber floor. Vader slashes his saber at Luke, causing him to roll down the stairs to where the pit awaited him. Vader then leaps from above and lands in front of Luke with his lightsaber pointed directly at him, before he could even regroup.

At that precise moment, Luke probably was not aware of the location of his lightsaber. However, he still had his trusty blaster with him. I am surprised that Vader didn't pay any notice to his blaster weapon, for you think he would have force snatched it the same way he did with Hans blaster.

I would assume that Vader was aware of Lukes blaster, for he had turned the lights on the moment Luke placed it back in his holster. Luke still had possesion of his blaster after losing his hand and lightsaber, so it's not like he was totally defenseless.

Luke realized, as Vader did, that the blaster was utterly useless against such a skilled Sith Lord/Force User as Vader was. We all saw how easily he deflected the blaster bolts of Han with merely a hand, then snatched it away with the Force without thought.

Yes, the blaster is no good against Vader.

The best thing is that Luke NEVER fired his blaster in Empire!

He brandished it at Yoda, he had it when he was walking around on Cloud City, but he never fired it because he might hit the frozen Han, Boba Fett gets a jump on him and he goes for cover and afterwards because he might hit Leia or Chewie when they are held by the Imperials.

I thought you may find that interesting... ;)

That is interesting Punisher. I don't recall Luke ever using a blaster after ANH. He brandished em, but never used em. He was about to fire at Jabba, but that was because his Jedi mind trick didn't work out and the shot only came when the guard went for the blaster.

There's a shot when Luke and the Gamorrean guard grapple. I'd imagine this was Luke's finger on the trigger but pushed by the guard's clumsy grab.

I think Vader would've deflected the blaster bolt.

" I think Vader would've deflected the blaster bolt."

Agreed, but Luke would probably think that Vader would do it with his lightsaber. The audience already knows that he can do it with his "bare" hand. ;)

Good thing Luke didn't try his daddy's "High-five" trick in ROTJ against the speederbikes. [face_laugh]

    Luke's line could be, "By the power of the Force, I command you to STOP!" 8-}

Luke fire his blaster in the Death Star Chasm with Princess Leia and he fires it repeatedly after Obi-Wan is killed by Vader! He takes out several Stormtroopers if memory serves.....

Yeah DJ you are correct, Luke used a blaster during ANH, but my statement was that he really never used one afterwards except in RotJ but he never got to fire it until the guard grabbed for it and it hit the ceiling. He had to use the blaster because his Jedi Mind Trick didn't work on Jabba and he didn't have his lightsaber with him. ;)

Er, sorry about that DRK_HLMT. It was late and I misread your post! [face_blush] So you are correct, Luke never fires his blaster again until all other options are out the window such as with his confrontation with Jabba!

I have a question, I know the blaster Han has in ANH is unique to that movie, but are the 3 blasters used by Han and Luke in ESB and Han in ROTJ all exactly the same, or are there some differences?

In the ESB script, novel, and comic book, he guns down a few stormtroopers when he sees them leading Leia and Chewie away at Bespin.

This was either cut or never filmed (most likely).

Also they've seen in the prequels how lightsaber wielders are able to repel blaster bolts.

I doubt Luke would be thinking of his blaster while he is going up against DARTH VADER.

Luke knows the blaster would have been useless against Vader. And besides, it would have been a desperate act on Luke's part. He's trying to prove that he has the strength and skills to match Vader. With the lightsaber.
