Think about it. Why does Luke have to wear a glove on his new hand? I suppose it looks "cool" because it symbolizes a piece of Vader. However, The glove serves no purpose. Thoughts?

If you are refering to ROTJ; Luke got his hand blasted by a hutt thug..

After rescuing Han; Luke immediately went to Dagobah to see "the master" and did not repair his hand; thus the glove...

is this what you are talking about??

No. His hand was gloved already before the thug did his thang.

His hand was definitely NOT gloved while on the sail barge. He put the glove on his hand while he was on his way to Dagobah.

You're wrong. He puts the glove on in the cockpit of his X-Wing on his way to see Yoda.

Lukes right hand was not gloved when it got shot by the thug, which is why he wears the glove to conceal the wound spot. It's a real wonder that his right hand was still functioning, especially after the lightsaber duel where he endured lethal doses of sith lightning.

Perhaps that is where Michael Jackson got the idea of the Glitter Glove, LOL.

    LOL..pretty funny.

or how about this: the reverse: skywalker copying "the self-proclaimed king of pop"

I mean c'mon..jackson was huge in the early eighties before he went all "freak"

just imagine: skywalker moonwalking all over the sail barge deflecting laser blasts.. now there is something for the special special editions.

    i kid of course;

The glove concealed the wound Luke received on Tatooine fighting Jabba's minions. He never stopped anywhere to get it repaired at any point during ROTJ.

It was also a neat visual tie in to Luke's destiny. We all know Luke was treading the Dark side in his final confrontation w/Vader, actually using it when he defeated him. Luke cuts off Vader's mechanical, black gloved hand. He looks at his own mechanical, black gloved hand. He realizes if he kills Vader the Emperor will be right and he will take Vader's place, becoming his father, so to speak. Pretty neat little bit of film making if you ask me.

I still dont see why he didnt get a quick patch job back on the HOME ONE after dagobah. If I knew i was gonna be walking around a forest, I wouldnt want my robot hand's wiring exposed to the elements.

Well, his hand wasn't exposed to the elements, it was covered by a leather glove :)

Given the sense of urgency in the briefing room, I'm sure there wasn't time to waste patching his wounded hand. Plus, it served as a visual cue to us in the end that Luke was becoming like his father. At least, it did to me.

His hand being gloved makes sense.

Luke holding his hand up to be shot on Jabba's skiff doesn't. What a poor scene that was!

The scene where Luke gets shot in the hand DOES look shoddy. Not only does it look goofy that Luke was standing there with his lightsaber up in the air like that, but you have to wonder why Jabba's goon didn't just shoot Luke in the chest! After all, it would be a lot easier to hit someone in the chest than in the hand, right? Surely that scene could have been done better!

I admit the scene at the end where Luke sees the exposed wiring of his father's mechanical hand, then holds up and looks at his own mechanical hand, is very cool, and wouldn't have had as much impact if we hadn't been reminded earlier in the movie of Luke's mechanical hand. But I have to wonder why Luke didn't put a glove on his other hand, too! Doesn't it look weird to walk around wearing just one glove? LOL

Nah, I go around with one black glove once a week to carry around my insufferably heavy art portfolio. Very handy for preventing major chafing. ;) And yes, I laughed at myself for being a dork when I thought of all this while wearing it. :p

"you have to wonder why Jabba's goon didn't just shoot Luke in the chest! After all, it would be a lot easier to hit someone in the chest than in the hand, right?"

Maybe he was aiming for the chest, or at least the head - but has crappy aim and "missed", accidently hitting the hand.
Or Luke moved his hand into the way of a random shot.
He isn't really holding it up, it just looks like it because in order to see the hit, we need a second to see what happens.

It provides a nice visual example of his dichotomy in the film. One side is light, the other is dark.

And Tales of the Gundark Hunter and Other Fantabulous Fables explains that he lost the other glove while testing Han's idea and attempting a Gundark ear removal.

Perhaps that is where Michael Jackson got the idea of the Glitter Glove, LOL

Nah, Jackson got the idea from Darth Kimball.

Luke was very lucky it wasn't his left hand that got shot, otherwise he would be screaming bloody murder. Then the medical droids would have to give him a new mechanical left hand to match his right one, which gives Luke the option of wearing two black gloves instead of one.

The hand was fake! Why bother covering it? He won't get an infection. All of the so called "humans" in star wars are not human. Nobody is from Earth.

What do Luke Skywalker and the Arizona Diamondbacks have in common?

They both wear one glove for no reason.

I don't think Luke was trying to stave off infection, but rather not draw attention to himself and freak people out. It's kind of hard to carry on a conversation with a guy with wires sticking out of the back of his hand.
