Has there been any explanations as why Luke has a blue lightsaber in the Courtship of Princess Leia, even though he should still have the green lightsaber from RotJ?

    Just something that bugged me.

I noticed that too when i read the book recently. I don't know of any theory or retcon to explain it. Could just be something as simple as he was using a spare saber for no apparent reason (read: Wolverton messed up :D)

That was from the original timeline, before Jacen flow-walked to see Anakin during RotS. Since it was that timeline, Luke, when he rebuilt his saber, built it with a gem that generated a blue blade. But after the flow-walking stuff, Luke had a green saber.

He does? *checks paperback copy* You're right!

No, its the editors when they were @ Bantam that messed up. I mean come on.....how could they not catch a mistake like that?

Actually, the fault for that would lie with the person (or people) at LFL, not Bantam. It's the publisher's job to make the best book possible; tracking continuity is the responsibility of the licensor.

CoPl is one huge mistake. It's an awful book.

I could set my watch to the appearance of this topic.

and some of us think it's the greatest book ever written.

But what's that got to do with the question at hand?

Well, it was just a small mistake. Annoying, but it can easily be explained away.

And I liked CoPL, too. IT's one of my favorite early Bantam books. Wolverton did a really good job on the first Jedi Apprentice book, too.

The Truce at Bakura also has this mistake, as does the comic adaptation of Heir to the Empire. It's annoying, like the artist and writers involved only looked at the ROTJ poster instead of watching the movie.

Though it was an error, the most common theory to explain it is Luke was merely using one of his other lightsabers, like the ones he acquired in the Marvel series from that Tagge, or the shoto he made to face Lumiya,

maybe he has a color selector dial on it, like Stacy's from PINK FIVE STRIKES BACK

maybe Luke invented a time machine, went forward in time, snuck into Mara's apartment, stole his old saber back, then went back in time and used it for old time's sake? :p

I have the TaB paperback, what page specifically says blue blade for the lightsaber?

That's actually just a fan theory; we never saw him take a saber from Tagge.

And forget about lightsaber blades; has anyone noticed how often the hilts are done wrong in comics and other illustrations? You have to wonder...

Right, it's a fan theory- but if it were the canon explaination, it wouldn't be a theory anymore, would it? ;)

...why artist would take artistic liberties with things that would look rather plain otherwise?

    yeah...how dare they.8-}

You know, for as much as continuity breaks in characterization and plot bother me...and they do...stuff like this never seems to. It's like when Bane:pOD came out, and people were up in arms because Drew referenced the wrong lightsaber style. Ok...it happens...move along...

*wow I just had deja vu...I think this might have been the exact same reply to this exact same post topic in the past*

"In episode 2F09 when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder."

Couldn't tell you. It's been years since I read it, but I remember it specifically making me cringe when I was 14/15 years old.

From the ANH DVD we know that Luke can change his saber color from blue to green at will.:p

Comes with the territory. Son of the Chosen One, strongest Force-user in history. Those early changings of crystal composition and thus lightsaber blade color at random were just early indications of his future greatness.o_O

I don't mean embellishing little doo-dads; what typically happens is that artists will draw Luke with his TESB hilt when he's supposed to have the ROTJ hilt. The emitter shroud and handgrips are quite different.

Personally, I don't really care if they get the lightsabers exactly right or not; I just wonder why everyone seems to notice the blade errors and not the hilt ones.

I've noticed those with other Jedi, but not a post-ROTJ image of Luke with his father's hilt. Never seen that one.

The graphic novel Jedi Knight and the Glove of Darth Vader books come to mind. I know I've seen it elsewhere as well, but those stick out.
