Luke's new cyborg-hand (Dark Empire)

I read DE many times, but it seems I missed this little detail everytime so far...

When Leia arrives on Byss, she discovers that Luke is missing his cyborg-hand. And Luke tells her: "They're making me another - a better one." And a short time later, we see a droid, working on his (new) cyborg-hand, just like 2-1B in EP5.

I can't remember any RPG-book or reference guide ever mentioning his improved cyborg-hand. So, does any EU-source ever say why this new hand is better than the old one?

And did Luke keep using this hand or did he replace it with a "normal" cyborg-hand after DE? After all, he got this hand from the emperor, his arch-enemy.

I don't think any books or comics written chronologically after Dark Empire ever thought anything of it......that's another reason I didn't like Dark Empire, but then I only have the audio drama, I never touched the actual comics.

 

I've looked for Dark Empire and have only been able to fine DEII, where can i find the first one...

Actually, I believe one of the later books has Luke lamenting his old cybernetic hand, saying this one causes more problems.

 

I know it acts up in DE2.

I just wanted to say that, no, it would NOT be cool.

 

although it does set up a story premise -- what if the emperor, when he gave Luke a new cybernetic hand, put in a hidden program or a homing beacon or something else that sets off some sort of misadventure..

"How do the Imperials keep knowing where I am?"

What's worse than a lightsaber that shorts out? a lightsaber and the cybernetic hand both shorting out...

Luke going through airport security.. "Could you please detach the hand and put it on the conveyor.."

DE is pretty easy to find. There is a reprint coming later in the year with new cover art if you can wait. Or you can go to marsimport.com as I got my DE and DE2 off there.

personally, the thought of Lukes hand wacking him with plates and other random kitchen utensils while making high pitched sqeals is making me cackle like a criminally insane little baby.

I think that was one of the JAT books.

DE II mentions the fact that it has a lot of quirks
