Let's say, hypothetically, that one day I wanted to make a Lyn Me costume (the white Twi'lek from the special edition ROTJ). Any idea how to go about doing this?

I would start by getting as many pictures as possible. Production pics, screen caps, anything. Then I would check around here for whoever has done a Twi'Lek costume and get pointers from them.

and someone you have around you that you would trust to wrap you while you are um, not clothed... the lek-to would be the hardest part and trying several times to do the wrappings and finding the white body paint

My applause! you're a brave woman to even think about this costume!

Ok, right now I'm looking at the Star Wars Visual Dictionary - the one from the original trilogy - and on page 48 there's a good shot of Lyn Me. So here goes my thoughts on how this costume could work:

For starters, I'm thinking that the actress (more likely, model) might be wearing a white body suit. If you look at the folds in her "skin" under her arms it doesn't look natural. It looks like fabric bunching. Maybe I'm wrong about this completely, but I'm not certain that this costume, if, in fact, it's all just body paint, would fly very well in a PG movie. I mean, it's more revealing that Oola's and Leia's. Also, her "skin just looks too smooth. I mean, she it would take a lot of work to get all that skin to look that...um...I think you girls know what I mean :p I'm not too sure how you would hide the seams, maybe just more of a bathing suit type deal with the seams down the front and back and high hips, high neck bit that has sleeves. I dunno, could be wrong there, but that's my theory. Even if it is all body paint, I personally would go with a leotard or something just for comfort's sake.

oooh, another thought. It might just be the lighting of the picture (or maybe i'm just seeing things) but it looks like the colour of her skin changes slightly about midthigh. which could mean very tight short legs taped down and covered with makeup. maybe, just a theory. but seriously though, the makeup on her lower legs, hands, and especially her face looks a few shades different than that on her torso.

but to continue and get off that part. For body paint or face makeup, there are places online that sell professional quality makeup. I'm doing Aurra Sing's costume, so I've been experimenting with white body paint and cake makeup. PM me if you want more details so I don't ramble here.

The shoes are deffinitely just white ballet (sp?) shoes, which you can get at any dance supply place and most dance studios for not too expensive. They're still more than they're worth, only cause they're specialty shoes, but if memory serves they're not outrageous.

You could use leather for the wrappings, or vinyl would be cheeper. Special effects makeup could aid with the coloring if you're using vinyl, since you really can't dye that. I would just play around with strips of cheep cloth to get the shapes correct. Deffinitely study pictures and watch her two seconds in ROTJ a bunch of times ;)

The face makeup doesn't look too complex. White obviously, red lipstick. Going more with the china doll eyes and just penciling over your eyebrows. You may have to thin them some, depending on the shape.

For the headpiece, I'm gonna refer you to this thread: twi'lek headgear...finally finished. also, this site (i'm pretty sure it's by the same person) The attatchment should be easier for Lyn Me's because of the way the leather is wrapped around her head and under her chin (looks like it buckles too, but i'm not positive), and I would go with leather here, or cloth, not vinyl because vinyl doesn't let your skin breath and it would get really hot and uncomfortable. at least for the part that goes under your chin.

hm...well, i think i rambled long enough :p hope some of what I said made sense. course, most of it's only theories, but yeah. :D

Help me fanboys, you're my only hope... :p

I've got the FRONT part figured out, but I can't figure out how the back should look. I watched RotJ a bit ago and couldn't figure it out there, either. Would any of you helpful people have a picture or something? Thanks a bunch.

I don't know about hiding the seams of a body suit, but it would be very easy to hide the edges of it (at ankles, neck, and wrists) because of the way the black part wraps around so much.

Thought I might have had a MoM picture saved somewhere, but if I do, I can't find it.

i have to agree with stormtrooperprincess. i was looking back over my sw visual dictionary yesterday and started thinking about it again, and i realized *duh* that the bodysuit edges could be hidden at ankles and wrists, and even a high neck. :p I also was thinking that you could get balett (sp?) slippers at a thrift store if you hunted around some. anywho, i'm done now. good luck with the cos!

Oh, hey, lookie what I found! Random search and I wasn't even looking for it *grin* guess it counters the bodysuit theory, though it prolly would still be good for shy people :p

I am working on a Lyn Me-type costume right now for a friend-of-a-friend. We are going the bodysuit route, as it would be much easier to wear instead of body makeup. However, the "wrappings" can be worn without the bodysuit underneath, should the wearer be so inclined.

The EU portion of Lyn Me's databank entry has a picture that, while it doesn't show the back, shows a side view of her. Should help in figuring out how to place the wrappings.

at the last comic con around here i found a lyn me action figure - it was in the same pack with rystall and greeata or however u spell those (dun feel like looking them up). Anywho, the back was basically around the neck and around the waste from what i remember.
