mace windu fabric

what sort of fabric was used for mace windus tunic? they say its kind of tweedy.

 

It is absolutely but extremely difficult to find. I made a Mace costume for the guy who was in the Rose Parade as Mace and I still have nightmares about finding that fabric.

 

I remember when you made that. You didnt sleep for about two weeks. hahah. But she is right it is extremely hard to find. If i hear of anything i will post to let you know.

 

So why not choose a different fabric that is close to the original that is more readily available?

Well, in my friend's case, he is the BEST Mace out there and was in the Rose Parade so there was no pressure or anything on me

The fabric I used was 2 meters of worsted wool I found at Hancock's in a clearance bin and I had the tag but when I asked, I was told it was from England and the fabric was 2 years old. Trust me, I SEARCHED and actually returned 2 different fabrics before finding this one. Mace's tunic, tabbards and obi are like a boucle so I would look for that with the correct colors. The main color is a tan/taupe but if you look closely, there is gold in the weave which makes it look a little greenish when placed with the tan/taupe and the lighting.

Was that before or after you choked me, my Ani? I also recall making some hair extensions for a certain Anakin as well so you all keep me busy

I'll confess that I'm not a costumer, but a Dark Ages re-enactor who makes all her own kit. Even so, I'd like to suggest a little-known fabric source that might help.

While not khadi, the Dark Ages style wool from Herts Fabrics might be close enough to do the trick. It might be worth contacting them and getting swatches of various fabrics: a fair amount of their stock isn't shown on the website, but if you told them what sort of thing you were looking for, they might be able to supply something similar, or suggest something that would do the job. And because you deal directly with Ali and a lad I've been assuming is his son, their customer service tends to be great!
