PT Mace Windu vs. Yoda: Who's really stronger?

Here is a thread where members can post quotes from the films as evidence as to who is the stronger Jedi. We can then discuss and debate.

To start it off:

Yoda

Palptine talking to Anakin: "I see you becoming the greatest of all the Jedi, even more powerful than Master Yoda." (AOTC)

Mace Windu

Anakin talking to Padme: "He (Obi-Wan) is as wise as Master Yoda, and as powerful as Master Windu." (AOTC)

 

I think Windu is stronger in the PT. Outside that idk.

 

I'd say Yoda.

 

Yoda. Evidence is that he did not need a lightsaber to deflect lightning.

 

Depends entirely how one interprets strength, I don't think either were really.

 

There's not a clear-cut answer.

Based on combat strength, I'd say they're equals (along with Sidious), though Mace obviously has a purely physical advantage. But Yoda is the most proficient Force user among the Jedi.

 

Yoda. He and Mace are equals with a lightsaber (according to Nick Gillard, Mace, Yoda, Palpatine and Anakin are the best swordsmen). However, Yoda (alongside with Palpatine) is stronger in the Force.

 

I always took that statement simply to mean that those were the traits that defined those Jedi. Earlier Obi Wan had told Anakin "you could rival Master Yoda as a swordsman", implying that Yoda was the benchmark for that as well.

 

I'd say Yoda, simply because other characters seem to regard him as the higher power between the two. For example:

Count Dooku: "I've become more powerful than any Jedi. Even you."

You must realize that's Anakin's view of both Masters. While he associates power with Master Windu, he has never seen Yoda use his lightsaber before (and probably thinks that he isn't very good with it). There is an exchange earlier in the movie which supports this:

Obi-Wan: "If you spent as much time practicing your swordfight as you do practicing your wit you would rival master Yoda as swordsman."

Anakin: "I thought I already did."

Obi-Wan: "Only in your mind, my young apprentice."

 

I think it's like this. Yoda has supreme mastery of the Force - he is the wisest, most experienced Jedi Master to have ever lived so far. He has vast powers that truly define the statement "Size matters not". He is more about using his mind to solve matters though, rather than whipping out a lightsaber as fast as he can.

Master Windu is more of a duellist (not that he is not still exceptionally strong in the Force). He is widely considered to be second to only Master Yoda on the Jedi Council.
He is a strong diplomat, but more a Jedi of action, often less patient than Yoda. He bested Palpatine in a duel and is one of the most skilled duelists in the galaxy. Had Windu not been the Jedi that he was and still offered Palpatine a chance to surrender, he might have struck down the Sith Lord then and there, before Anakin even got there. However, he does not have the total mastery of the Force that Palpatine or Yoda had. The former can create lightning, whilst the latter can handle it. It was not shown that Windu could do so, but he is gifted nevertheless. Until Anakin controls himself and calms down to use the powers of the light, or until he turns and unleashed the darkness in him, Windu is as powerful. Yoda is the most powerful though.

Given Yoda's age, the older he gets though, the less easy he finds it to jump about the place, but that goes for all Jedi or Sith. It takes having to use more of the Force to keep yourself in a fast paced fight, as your body is getting fragile!! As Yoda said "When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not hmm?"

I think Yoda and Palpatine were equal. But the Force was not with Yoda that day, and down to luck, Palpatine fell to a pod, Yoda hit a pod and fell to the floor. Unfortunately he lost his lightsaber and reinforcement clones were on their way, hence his retreat I think.

Yoda - I think he is the most powerful character that we have seen in the saga so far, with Master Windu and Darth Sidious following (and in that order).

 

I think Mace could hold his own against Yoda but there's no telling what would happen if he accidentally went too much over to the Dark (while using Juyo) and Yoda was caught off guard.

 

I find it hard to accept this opinion. If Yoda truly had supreme mastery of the Force, why was it necessary for him to accept more years of training from the ghostly Qui-Gon? And shouldn't one say the same about Palpatine?

What if Yoda went evil? He was quite capable of it, like everyone else.

Many of the reasons have already been said, including the all-important quotes

"Even more powerful than Master Yoda" (Palpatine, AOTC)
"I've become more powerful than any Jedi. Even you" (Dooku, AOTC)
"If you spent as much time practicing your swordfight as you do practicing your wit you would rival master Yoda as swordsman" (Obi-Wan, AOTC)

Plus, we have the notion in ROTJ that Yoda is as close as it comes in terms of physical immorality: "Strong am I with the Force, but not that strong"

His control of the Force is awesome: against Dooku in AOTC, in the Senate Chambers in ROTS, teaching Luke a lesson in ESB.

I'll say this. When I was a kid and played with the SW action figures, once I started fighting with the Yoda one, game over. He is the ultimate Force user.

Mace may have the skill and ferocity with a lightsaber, but Yoda has the patience, the wisdom and the strength of the force. Master Windu is an established number 2 compared to Yoda, he's powerful and skilled, but Yoda surpasses him with the force and therefore, passes him in almost every attribute simply because of his power in the force.

Saber skills : Debatable, Mace is at least good as Yoda, in my personal opinion.

 

I thought the movies pretty much verified who was stronger.

 

Mace is powerful and a skilled duelist. He is a Jedi of action, who does what needs to be done.

Yoda is all knowing and wise. He has experience and often uses his mind over his lightsaber. He is immensely powerful in the Force, more so than any other Jedi at this point in time.

Both are powerful in their own ways. In a fight against a quick opponent, Mace might be better on your side. Yoda would be better against numbers as he would just use the Force. Yoda also can handle lightning and seems to know more about the dark side.

 

Hmmm lets see... In one battle, windu and 3 other JEDI MASTERS are defeated and killed by Palps. Yoda on the other hand is brave and courageous enough to face Palps on his own 1v1. Now, everyone put their fanboy or fangirl allegiance aside and do the math. In one battle windu and 3 JEDI MASTERS v Palps = 4 dead JEDI MASTERS all killed by Palps. In one battle Yoda v Palps 1v1 = A win to Palps via default with Yoda leaving the fight before he too was killed. Thus making Yoda more wise and smarter and definitely stronger than his number 2 lol of the Jedi order. The only edge I would give to windu over Yoda is windu is taller. However size matters not lol. The real question to ask is Palps vs Yoda: Who's really stronger? No need to ask though because it has already been answered. Here we go
