This will undoubtedly be an interesting read directly on the heels of The Living Force. It also feels like it would pair well with Master and Apprentice. Love that cover.

It's getting harder and harder to remember the time when one of the prevailing post-reboot fan narratives was "Disney hates the prequels."

Let's go! Glad to see that Disney/Marvel/Random House have all noticed the ripe area for stories that is the pre-AOTC period*. There's a lot of room for a lot of type of stories, so I hope they really swing for the fences on this.

*There are other open spaces, but Filoni has the post-Aftermath period pretty well locked up, the CW era is rather dense, and the Dawn of Rebellion era isn't entirely filled up, but there's only so much more they can fill in there before it's a little nutty. The ST era could use a lot of fleshing out, but as long as there's still potential for movies in that era, they won't be locking down too much on the main characters.

Echoing adoration for the cover- that use of Mace’s cloak for half of the Jedi symbol? *chef’s kiss*

The Cestus Deception was a cool and unique book, Barnes did great with a distinct world and species there, so nice to hear he’s going that route a bit again.

I think that was only ever so at the films level at that point, see blowing up the New Republic, the attitude that the Jefi deserved to die etc.

But it wasn't that long before prequel stuff starting springing up. Rebels became far more linked to TCW from its second series. There'll always be that bunch lurking but the rest of us? Get to enjoy cool new stuff like this.

I mean, originally there WAS a very concerted effort to eschew the prequels and get back to the original trilogy side of things.

Real prequel nostalgia kicked in around 2019/2020 when TPM was 20 years old and Rise of Skywalker left a bad taste in people’s mouths. I really honestly noticed the uptick in people accepting the prequel trilogy unconditionally around the same time The Clone Wars came back on Disney Plus and thinking it was so weird.

To them, prequel stuff is bankable now, but NOT ten years ago. The cycle just renewed itself.

This is the first time where Mace Windu is the focal point and main character. In the Prequels and Clone Wars he was a recurring character. Intresting enough he is one of the Jedi voices that helps Rey and give her strength. Could this book explore Mace Windu and Qui Gon Jinn's complicated relationship.

Also intresting both Mace Windu linage and Qui Gon Jinn linage both Clash with each other, Kanan and Ezra vs Ahsoka and Sabine.

Bit more than good, but it also links really well to Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor.
