Here's a game, come up with 3 ideas / changes that you think would help each trilogy: PT: Anakin is a teenager not a child in the first movie. Darth Maul survives episode 1 (in the movies) George Lucas hires someone to improve the script and make it more actor friendly. Especially the romance scenes. OT: Leia is NOT Luke's sister (if that's too many changes across movies then just remove the make out scene in ESB) Wookies instead of Ewoks Remove many special edition scenes from ANH and ROTJ - if I have to pick one it would be "Jedi Rocks" ST: Rey has to actually train to acquire new skills. Luke is the same character he was in the OT, just older and wiser. Snoke doesn't die in EP8 and is the main baddy in EP9.
PT: JarJar wouldn't be such a dingbat Annakin has better game with Padme Better wigs for Ewan OT: Remove special edition Mos Eisley crapola Yoda hangs around a little longer No Leia Bikini ST: Nix the big scary planet destroyer weapon trope No return of Sheevy skeevy Get rid of all those extra characters in the last movie, focus on the dyad. End with more twin babies.
PT: —No “courtly love” setup with Anakin and Padme, give them dialogue that is actually good and that the actors are comfortable with —Anakin and Padme had been corresponding the ten years between TPM and AOTC and had just not seen each other —Anakin does not kill Padme/she does not die of a broken heart. She is killed away from Anakin and Anakin blames the Jedi for it. OT: —Take out the Luke/Leia kiss scene —Change the scene in which Han refuses to stop when Leia tells him to —Jabba does not put Leia in a gold bikini ST: —Rey is Luke’s daughter —Finn leads a stormtrooper rebellion —Leia redeems Kylo
PT Introduce Count Dooku in TPM Have the Jedi proactive instead of reactive: have them investigate more and not just have them moping about how the darkside makes it impossible to see things, etc cut short superfluous action scenes in ROTS to make it less contrived OT Speed up the Hoth scenes Remove the SE Jabba The Hutt scene redo the ANH duel scene, ST Have Snoke suvive until EP IX Have Luke survive until EP IX More Rose in EP IX
OT: Have Leia meet Vader and/or the Emperor Show Han’s decision to help the Rebels Give Boba Fett one more fight scene PT: Have Padme sacrifice herself for Luke and Leia instead of dying of a broken heart Explain that Sidious was Plagueis’s apprentice Give Qui-Gon’s ghost a speaking role in ROTS ST: Make the protagonist a Solo or Skywalker Give Rey a good reason to care about Kylo (might be the same as above) Luke is not considered responsible for Kylo’s fall in-universe nor did he consider striking him down
PT - Eh.... Maybe add in some of the deleted scene's? The political stuff and Padme's family at least feels relevant. I understand why they were cut, and they by no means are required. I just like them and they feed more into the latter story/character development. OT: - Scene's on Coruscant with Palpatine and the Imperial senate to better give an idea of how the galaxy has changed in the last 20 years. - A greater alien presence in the first two movie's, honestly feels like after they step off Tatooine we're constantly just around the corner from Earth with how many humans there are. Its particularly noticeable with how drastically latter films up the alien presence. - Give Force Ghost Anakin and Yoda a brief speaking role. ST: - Scrap all the major factions besides the New Republic completely and start from scratch. Preferably the antagonist would be someone or something that can tie back to the rest of the saga somehow, like the Hutts for instance. - Luke is the Grand Master of the reestablished Jedi Order that is at least a few hundred strong. - The protagonist is Han and Leia's Child(Ren) who are training to become Jedi.
PT: -Take out the Vader NOOOOOOOO and replace it with indiscernible roaring/ screaming that sounds cool. -Have Luke be an only Skywalker child and make Leia Bail's biological daughter (also involve Bail in the PT more). -Either make Jar Jar less cartoony or give him a smaller role. OT: -Palpatine dies for absolute certain (more of a TROS change, but I guess it counts here.) -Take out all major SE changes except the Ewok song, Bespin backgrounds, and the view of Coruscant in RotJ. -Develop the Han/Leia romance more gradually so it's not just them bickering one minute and making out the next. ST: -Give it the EU Legends/ Marvel's What If treatment (de-canonize).
Without trying to rewrite everything: OT 1. Speed up the bit with droids walkin in the desert. They don’t separate/reunite. 2. Better Obiwan/Vader choreography 3. During the escape from the Death Star, it’s Leia who mans the Falcon’s gun as Luke is in shock over Ben. When Leia comes to console him, Luke finally processes that his uncle/aunt are gone, blaming himself, regretting ever leaving the farm, but Leia reminds him that his actions led to her rescue and she shares words about how she’s dealing with Alderaan and her own family, helping Luke to pull himself together. On Yavin 4, Leia is surprised and proud when she sees Luke walk in, suited up to fly. PT 1. Hayden plays Anakin in TPM 2. Co-writer is brought on for dialogue 3. RoTS has a new production designer ST 1. More informative crawl / opening visuals in TFA to make galactic power dynamics clear. 2. The start of TROS shows people all over the galaxy resisting the FO’s conquest (inspired by Luke/Leia’s actions in TLJ) and even rebellion and doubt brewing within the FO (inspired by Finn), which explain the FO’s dwindling numbers and their need of the Sith feet. 3. Kylo’s continued downward spiral of fear of failure, paranoia, and anger (which he attempts to hide with his mask) leads him to strike down Palpatine in the third act, thus ironically becoming possessed by the spirit of his old master, but with Rey overcoming her own fear of failure and wielding great power, she connects with the force ghosts to help banish Palpatines spirit (thus fulfilling their purpose before leaving forever), allowing Kylo (or perhaps Ben) to regain control for a brief second, igniting his saber on himself and taking his own life, ambiguous as to whether he did it out of cowardice or selflessness.
PT: - Forget Qui-Gon entirely and have Obi-Wan meet and develop a friendship with Anakin in TPM before taking him on as an apprentice. - Introduce a main character who isn't a politician / stoic Jedi / wacky sidekick. - As was mentioned before, getting someone else to help with the dialogue would have really helped. OT: - Take out most of the SE changes, especially the Jabba scene in ANH. - No creepy Luke/Leia kiss - Stick with the original idea of using Wookiees instead of Ewoks. ST: - Don't kill off Luke at the end of TLJ, especially in such a cop-out way. - Take out the Rey/Kylo kiss. - Actually, develop Finn more and let him become a jedi.
Episodes 1-3: -Take a page out of Harry Potter and show more of how the education/training of Jedi occurs within the temple. If we are going to start with Anakin as a kid, then show us and in depth look at what his training was like, and layer that with the rising threat of the SIth, Clone Wars, etc. -Better romantic subplot for Attack of the Clones. As is, the romance between Anakin and Padme feels very clunky, forced, and artificial. These two are good actors and could have done so much more with a better script/dialog. -Recalibrate the story length. Less Episode 1, more Episode 3. Revenge of the Sith was the heart of the PT. It's what we'd been waiting for. That said, what we got was too rushed as there was two movies worth of stuff crammed into two hours. Maybe it should have been 3 hours? We should have seen the seeds of the rebellion. We should have seen more Darth Vader. Episodes 4-6: -Retool the FX in a more organic way. I am all for updating the FX*. Yet, the added scenes should look like Rogue One or The Mandalorian...not like the prequels. Less is more. *The 1977,1980,1983 version of these films should also be available in 4K for purchase. -Restore Han shooting 1st. Han is not John Wayne, he's Clint Eastwood...an antihero. -Get rid of Luke and Leia snogging in ESB. Save me from explaining to my children how SW story was created/developed every single time we watch Episode 5. Episode 7-9: -Luke doesn't die. He makes a Gandalf like return/resurrection and is involved in the final battle. -Palpatine is brought back gradually (and with much dread) like Sauron or Voldemort...not rushed/shoehorned in. -Rey is Luke's clone/daughter. The Emperor took Luke's ESB hand and used it for cloning/experimenting to preserve his own life unnaturally. Rey was the one that got away. She was liberated as a child and hidden on Jakku. This would explain Rey's TLJ cave vision of multiples of herself when she wants to see her parents.
Prequel Trilogy. Restore some of the deleted scenes in Attack of the Clones. Anakin and Padmé visiting Padmé’s home, and Count Dooku putting them on trial on Geonosis Restore Jar Jar Binks’ deleted scene in Revenge of the Sith. Add/change the scene in the Polis Massa base so that we hear or see Qui-Gon’s spirit Wouldn’t change anything in the original trilogy I would rewrite most of the sequel trilogy
PT: More about Anakin's training at 9 yrs old. More of pre suit Vader before the Mustafar duel. Padme gets a better ending. OT: Han shot first Get rid of the SE scene of Han and Jabba. Shorten the Ewok sequences on Endor for more Luke/Vader. ST: I need more than 3...so I will try not to repeat ones already listed Be a natural continuation of the story and not an attempt at a reboot that disregards previous films. Anakin force ghost No Palps.
PT: -Age Anakin up in Episode I or have a time jump during the film where he goes from a preteen or so to a late teen or 20 year old. -Maul lives until Episode III -Tweak the Padme/Anakin romance a lot like reworking the dialogue and making Anakin only kill a few Tuskens in anger (not the whole village) OT -Remove the Luke and Leia kiss in ESB and have Luke's relation to Vader and Leia in mind when writing Episode IV. Vader's reveal can stay the same, the twins reveal should be in IV or V. -Wookies instead of Ewoks, reworked and more original 2nd Death Star or no 2nd Death Star at all. -Remove most special edition changes ST -Han/Luke/Leia reunion -A notable saber duel in VIII. -Have the big bad planned out more. Either have Snoke the big bad of the whole trilogy, someone different, or build-up a revived Palpatine.
PT - Anakin is a teen and the same age as Padme. Anakin turns Sith at the beginning of EP III and we see him hunt down Jedi until Obi-Wan lets him burn. No Jar Jar. OT - Wookies not Ewoks Leia is with Luke at the Death Star Leia is the chosen one ST Snoke vs the old Luke in EPIX Rey Kenobi and Ben Solo vs Sidious Sidious uses a lightsaber
This might be my favorite one that I didn't come up with. Start the trilogy during AOTC timeline, focus on the turn in Ep2, Pre-suit Vader hunts jedi in Ep 3. Another idea that moves the timeline even further back would be basically Ep1 = AOTC, Ep2 = ROTS, Ep3 = Vader in suit hunting down jedi.
Hmmm... PT: 1) Dialogue polish for the romance scenes between Ani & Padme. Don't dispense with the "courtly love" angle, since it's period appropriate. Just a slight rewrite to the clunkier lines. 2) Tone down Kenobi in AOTC. Let him be stern, but he doesn't need to be so hostile towards Ani. And cut his slander about Padme being untrustworthy. 3) Some adjustment to Ani's decent into evil. He's sickened and horrified by killing the Tuskens. He's disturbed yet resigned over murdering Dooku. He's coldly focused during the Temple attack. He's satisified (but DOESN'T quip) when killing the TF leaders. And by the time Padme lands, he's fully into the Dark Side (or so it appears). It's there in the movies, but it could be made a bit clearer. OT: 1) Remove the Docking Bay 94 scene with Han & Jabba. It's not really needed, since the same dialogue was used in the Greedo scene. Or do like the radio series did and alter the dialogue to express new information. 2) Han shoots first. 3) Leave in the lines from Red Leader in the original script about him once flying with Ani during the war. It gives us more insight into why Luke idolizes him, and provides a bit more continuity between PT and OT. ST: Restricting myself to just three is difficult. But, if I must... 1) In TFA, when Han confronts Kylo/Ben and they're both holding the 'saber, Rey has a bad feeling and shouts, "No!" Han and K/B are distracted, and the 'saber ignites, searing across Han's shoulder. Father & son look at each other with a "What the heck just happened?" expression. Then, K/B goes into evil mode and moves to kill Han. But Chewie (as we can see via a rifle scope POV shot) fires and purposely wounds K/B, giving Han a chance to escape. 2) Luke is Luke, not Jake. Thus, he doesn't try to murder his nephew and then run away to let the Jedi die. Instead, he spends years criss-crossing the galaxy, looking for his fleeing students, gathering intel on the FO, and learning more about Snoke's origins. He reaches Ach-To and stays there, but not to hide or waste away. Rather, he's preparing himself for what he knows will be a big confrontation with the bad guys in the future. 3) At 8 AM on the first day of ST filming, the very first scene shot is one of all of our OT heroes (Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Chewie & the droids) all together again and happy. Not as a pleasant moment to be cruelly dashed later in the name of "deconstruction", but as a real reunion of our friends, one last time. Make sure it is perfect. Do two or three takes just to be sure. Then put the footage in the most secure film vault on Earth. And then write the entire ST around that one scene. And make it clear: this is for the fans and it must not be cut or altered AT ALL. Over to you...
PT: -Add in Padme’s scenes for ROTS -Add one more fight scene in AOTC pre-Geonosis to break up some of the slow pacing from Naboo/Kamino. Maybe assassins try to target Padme on Naboo. OT: -Get rid of Death Star 2, add in the Imperial Palace on Coruscant as another location, add Kashyyyk as final battle site, better choreography for Luke and Vader’s final confrontation. -More infantry on infantry combat during Battle of Hoth -Better develop Luke’s friendships with Leia and Han by most importantly getting rid of that awkward love triangle ST: -Make TFA an actual Episode VII and not a “Remember SW 1977!?!” by adding relevant political allegory for the 2010s, getting rid of the Resistance and First Order, creating a new threat, and having Luke, Leia, and Han be active in the New Republic - Just establish Rey as a Skywalker/Solo from the start, and have Finn be competent yet flawed.
Yes please, Both of this! Especially the Delegation of 2000 Stuff I'd LOVE to see put into the movie. With TCW and Rebels those Scenes are even more important and have so much impact. I'd really wish Lucas would add them for the ROTS 20th. Get the guy back and lets do this!
Prequel Trilogy I - Include Farewell to Jira scene II - Build Clone Trooper suits III - Include Rebellion formation subplot Original Trilogy IV - Improve Obi/Vader Duel V - Create CG mynocks and space slug VI - Animate Sy Snootles to Lapti Nek Sequel Trilogy VII - Use George Lucas’s story VIII - Use George Lucas’s story IX - Use George Lucas’s story
