Okay, so this place was already a wasteland populated by apparently only sporadic enclosed cities when we first saw it in TCW, and didn’t change much in Rebels... but now it’s worse enough that the Watch teaches that it’s haunted and that Boba regards it as a lost cause, with Bo-Katan wanting to unite the Mandalorians and seize weapons and material from Gideon’s Imperial faction before going back to it...

    ...So what the heck happened?

Is it occupied by someone right now that the Mandos would have to fight?

Is it pockmarked by miles wide “glass” canyons from orbital bombardment?

Did the Empire test it’s Operation Cinder storm machines on the planet?

Seriously; what could be bad enough to keep Mandalore out of Mandalorian hands when the Empire has fallen hard enough one of the perpetrators of its destruction had to remain in hiding?

Orbital bombardment doesn't make much sense considering they probably have planetary shields and their Domed Cities are likely constructed with Beskar making them highly durable. My guess is the Empire bombed the cities from within. They showed us the support structure of the domes in TCW, maybe they targeted those, making the dome fall like the plate above Sector 7 in Final Fantasy 7.

Plus I also hope there aren’t a lot of Mandalorians left in the galaxy. Like only a couple of thousand of them

The Mandalorians should try find a new beginning elsewhere.

Also we the audience knows the First Order will rise. Like the Empire before, I could see them wanting to never see civilization restored to Mandalore.

Unfortunately I’m sure Mando pride will not allow themselves to find a new home. Sure wouldn’t be the first time their culture has led to their ruin.

They're going to have to do something with it. They can't just keep having these Mandalorians going on and on about Mandalore and then not attempting some kind of effort to either restore it or let it go.

I personally want to see the Mandalorians find new purpose in being the guardians of Yoda and Grogu's species after learning of their abilities. With Din and Grogu being the representatives from both groups to make it happen. And that doesn't mean that the Mandalorians necessarily have to be limited in only doing that. But I would think it would be quite a fitting role for Mandalorians to have in the galaxy.

That’s what they’re inferring... but again, the first time we saw it was as a near-empty wasteland ostensibly rendered that way by the Republic and the Jedi.

This can’t just be a case of destroyed cities in order to reach “toast.”

That’s why an Operation: Cinder-type catastrophe would make sense; merely rendering the planet inhospitable wouldn’t be a deterrent to the Mandalorians, since that’s how audiences were introduced to it. It needs to be damn near uninhabitable, where even pre-fabricated habitations wouldn’t be enough.

I also don’t think the cities were made of Beskar; as implausible as wearing the weird hybrid of platinum, titanium, and gold as armor is, building cities out of it is much more so. I could only see that being the case if the Empire mined all of it to help build the Death Stars. Otherwise, it’s rarity wouldn’t be plausible in the show.

No I think the planet might be literally falling apart and Bo Katan is downplaying that

Mandalore is not a place. It's a people...... Seriously, I could see them going down the same route as in the end of Thor Ragnarok. With a little twist though in that Din, or whomever ends up leading them, would have to unite the people first, then ask Meek were he's from. I mean find a new planet to claim as their home.

No Mandalore is a place. That would be like saying Earth isn’t a place it’s a people.

Actually Earth is both. It's the world on which we live. If we left this planet, we would still be Eartlings, and the planet we settled on, would become our new Earth.

    Like Concord Dawn?

    That’d be cool.

...There’s a part of me that still, regardless of anything else, wants to see some kind of fight scene in a ruined Mandalorian city.

Mandalore? You gotta be kidding me.

I think that line by Boba says everything we need to know? From an outsider's, objective opinion, that planet is completely wrecked an uninhabitable.

I think at first the goal may be to unite the planet, but once it becomes apparent Bo Katan wants to be the the ruler of ashes, it may be time for Din (and maybe Grogu) to step in and establish that Mandalorians are not a creed defined by one single place.

Mandalore was already pretty uninhabitable due to past wars. They would need to do a lot worse to make it worse off than it already waax

    I wonder what “glassed” means.

I know in other sci-fi franchises (the one I'm most familiar with is the Halo games) glassed planets basically are just reduced to complete, arid rock. No life, plants, anything. Sometimes the air is a toxic fume.

Considering Mandalore is already a desert due to past wars, I think the Empire just finished the job that's been done over millennia and literally bombarded the planet to the point that the planet is basically Mars, but still slightly habitable, with constant sandstorms or something.

Glassed would indicate a weapon capable of melting sand to turn it into glass. After the first atomic weapon was tested the melted, then solidified, sand was called trinitite.

I think an actual glass surface would be pretty cool.

Glassed in the real world is just basically short for nuking the holy hell out of something. Although you could probably get similar results with lasers in Star Wars without the mess of radiation

I think Bo is right in that the planet Mandalore isn't as damaged as some thinks.

Either Boba Fett, Mayfield and Din's info is all based on literally nothing at all or stuff has happened that has made the situation on Mandalore worsen since the Clone Wars, where it was already too inhospitable to live anywhere but in protective domes. How much worse can Mandalore afford to get?
