Artist Mar's Artwork - Non-SW (HP, LOTR, Doctor Who, A:TLA, other stuff) - updated 11/21

Hi everyone!

Since this forum is now fully open to non-SW artwork (my "fault", I'm afraid, I started the thread in Comms that caused it ), I decided to return. I used to post here frequently about 8 years ago (heck, I even sort of co-modded this place when it didn't have a dedicated mod yet), but then I gradually sort of fell away from Star Wars and I'm no longer doing SW art.

On the other hand, I have quite a few pieces on other fandoms that I'd like to share with you guys and receive feedback. A lot of it are just doodles and quick sketches, though.

I hope you enjoy my little bits and pieces (I'll post them one by one), and please, feel free to give me constructive criticism (don't worry, I won't bite ).


Let's start with Harry Potter. Most of my HP stuff comes from the JC Hogwarts House Cup games that take place in C&G and for which I did artistic tasks. They were often done very quickly, so the quality suffered somewhat...

Anyway, here's the first piece, intended to be a poster for my house (Slytherin FTW! ):

pose and muscles are very good for the centaur and like the whole picture

 

I've been told that the horse part is too small compared to the human part, and therefore his front legs wouldn't be able to support the weight.

Let's see, where to start? I've probably given you comments on all of these at some point, but anyway, while I'm contemplating the action that will fill the next 5,000 words in the story I'm currently writing:

(1) SlytherRoad

I laughed the first time I saw this. And I continue to laugh each time I see it. I want it as an icon. The Beatles and Harry Potter go together very, very well - and I suppose it's natural, they're both British phenomenons!

(2) Riddle

I don't think I've seen this one, actually... It's really cool. Captures Riddle's creepiness, and I like how he's carrying a book. He's really a bookworm and overstudious student gone insane and evil.

... could you imagine Hermione as an evil Slytherin?!



(3) Bill and Fleur

I like the details of Bill's scars - nice and grotesque. Poor man... Fleur's expression is haunting, too.

(4) Firenze

Firenze looks fine to me, but then I don't know much about horses, having ridden them only a few times here and there and I'm not a particularly good artist, either. Harry looks so short, little and lost, awww...

(5) Little Rory and Amy

I squee'ed when you first sent this one to me; I adore it! They're so cute, and Amy convincing Rory to dress up as the Raggedy Doctor makes me chuckle every time. I love Series 5...

(6) Beatles!Marauders

I love it when you get brilliant brainwaves for artwork, Mar. It's so appropriate, and I love Sirius' expression! I also really like Lupin, he looks so calm and sincere there, completely contrasting with the scars on his cheek.

Can't wait to see what you post next!

Here are two doodles:

The first one is a very quick sketch of young Havelock Vetinari I did years ago on the back cover of a tolkienite fanzine. I think it's quite obvious that it was influenced by Paul Kidby's drawings of Vetinari (I love Paul Kidby's work, IMHO he's got the definitive look of Discworld characters in 99% of cases).

The second one I did just now - it was a sudden idea to do A:TLA characters in the style of "Order of the Stick". I actually kind of like the way they turned out, I think the style fits them.
