I'll definitely give this series a shot, but I Marvel needs to prove to me that they actually wanna craft compelling stories and not just have every arc be about the Big Three doing everything. If we get a good mix of new characters and they actively use characters who SHOULD be very engaged in the early New Republic (Chancellor Mon Mothma, Wedge Antilles training the next gen of New Republic pilots, Ackbar navigating the demilitarization efforts, etc), I will be happy.

They have a damned near blank canvas in the early New Republic years. So much potential IF handled correctly. I wanna see anti-piracy efforts, Leia and Mon solidifying their new government, the effects of galactic reconstruction, and a bevy of other things. I'm not overly opptimistic this will be the case, but I am always open to give a series a chance.

99% sure we are getting the Atha Prime storyline originally planned for Kenner in the 80’s

Lux already lost his mojo by the time of Inferno Squad novel. But Jul Tambor is free and quite active, he has a potential to become a new unsinkable bastard politician, similar to Thrackan Sal-Solo.

I'm excited, but also... trepidatious from a OneCanon perspective.

I hope it's mostly new stories!

Maybe, but we know he is still alive so he could make a comeback while Jul Tambor was exiled for his crimes

Glad to have steady hand Phil Noto at the visual reins here. He's a good choice to define the look of the era, hopefully to have others follow his lead.

Lux Bonteri coming back would be sublime.

Atha Prime as an overarching enemy for the Marvel era would be sublime.

I doubt we will get it...but I want to see some depth to this era. I want to see how the NR deals with pirates, independent factions, internal fights between member worlds that start shooting at each other, member worlds in conflict with independent factions...

I would prefer onscreen...but the first meeting between Luke, Leia and Asohka.

    Hmm, potentially interesting.

Though I'd prefer they do not keep doing Star Wars as a title and resetting the numbering.

I feel like it would be best for Lux to be off limits to re appear in the Filoniverse instead of a book that’ll inevitably get steamrolled

The marvel books were the straw that broke the camel's back of memory reading every star wars book and comic. They have just stretched believability of what the main characters can go through in a short period of time and have often been a slog for me to get through. There are definitely highlights (aphra comes to mind...) but i just couldn't keep going. They often just made me miss dark horse days.

That said, I'll give this series a shot and cross my fingers for marvel to get it right. It's definitely a time frame ripe for storytelling.

Jedi Academy Trilogy/I, Jedi, Children of the Jedi/Jedi Outcast, Darksaber, Adumar, Planet of Twilight, Crimson Empire III, Crystal Star, Jedi Academy.

    The three years after Jakku.

We have plenty of ‘warlord of the week’ plotlines during this time period, with a wider Imperial Remnant in the background. Which is basically exactly what somewhat has to happen here; there won’t be a major war, and even the battles between the Imperial Remnant and New Republic in Legends in this era are actually relatively minor skirmishes against the backdrop of a Cold War.

Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, Artoo, Threepio, Boba Fett, Ackbar, Mon Mothma and even Pellaeon get character shields, which is rather One Canon resistant.

I’m not particularly concerned… excited, even. Some of the more interesting speculation is that Marvel may even do the Nagai invasion.

This might be the one title I don't grab. I'm not thrilled yet by the premise or time period, but that can change when we see actual issue solicits. However, if we get Leia and Luke meeting Ahsoka, I'll be incredibly in

I don’t love that Alex Segura is writing it, because his current work on the Jakku maxi-series is very weird....but I’ll check it out.

I think that Jakku is just soo many canon lore behind it and is difficult to write around it

There’s the continuity issues, which is its own thing....but the actual dialogue in all the Adlehard scenes is genuinely bizarre.

Unshackled from the continuity minefield of the post-ROTJ year and given a much freer canvas and room to breathe, I imagine this series will feel quite different from Segura's previous one. Noto on art is going to be a plus for sure.

It's an interesting choice for a timeframe. Enormous potential for interesting stories, but also some constraints - the Empire needs to be depicted as retreating into its short-lived "remnant of hard-liners / cold war" state, the NR is pivoting toward a peacekeeping and building role, and the Big Three are... very busy. (Han and Leia have a newborn to deal with, while Luke needs to get cracking on searching for artifacts and such.) Atha Prime would actually be a very cool choice for villain - we already know we're seeing him in a prequel-era comic, and I've speculated that he might be the "face from the past" that Kylo Ren interacts with in his sequel-era series. Seeing him in an OT-ish-era series to complete the triple play would be fun, especially since post-ROTJ is actually when Kenner's "The Epic Continues" storyline would have been going on. Atha Prime getting his due forty years later is the kind of thing that can only happen in Star Wars.

The real question is - will we finally find out if General Madine is alive or dead? Second only to "what happened on Ord Mantell?" as the ultimate unanswered question of the new canon to date.

Just giving my few cents on the matter at hand; If they're doing a New Republic lineup of stories, I think they should go the route of giving other characters their own due outside of the big three (Both OT and ST) and maybe expand on the build-up before Mando season 1.

If they wanted fresh readers, they have opportunities to show the western-inspired adventures of Din Djarin or Cara Dune doing Tom Clancy-esque missions for the New Republic with other shock troopers. Heck and this might be stretching it, maybe do a mini-gangster tale showing the events that turn Tasu Leech into the head of Kanjiklub (It could be the Star Wars equivalent of "Goodfellas" or the "Yakuza" videogames.)
