In Episode II, Mas Ameeda (correct me if that is the wrong spelling) is very close to Palpatine (no, not romantically). Would it not seem logical that because of his service to Palpatine, the Emperor would have made Ameeda a high ranking officer or admiral in the fleet? After Episode III, we will never hear of him again, so I have come to wonder, will he die? Who will kill him? Does he survive but never get mentioned?

    Thoughts?

I doubt he'd be given a position in the military... He really has no understanding of that.

My bet is that he'll be made president - or whatever they call it - of the Imperial Senate for life (only to be betrayed when the Senate is dissolved in ANH.)

Palpatine dosen't seem to be the type guy to hold much stock in loyalties, he's just a very smart, very evil, guy who's out for his own means and his own means only.

Once your usefullness to him is up and he nolonger sees fit to use you to his advantage, oh well.

True, but he's already corrupt. He could still use him in the Senate.

I think he's another unsuspecting puppet that Palpatine is using. He called for order before Palpatine was Supreme Chancellor. That's why I suppose he isn't loyal to Palpatine and vice versa. Mas Ameeda is loyal to the Republic, but once the Empire is made whole, he'll end up like Valorum.

not sure - Palpatine mentions the bureaucracy when Mas Amedda is speaking in Valourum's ear, and he mentions how slow and corrupt the Senate has become.

I would say that Mas Amedda is an opporunist - attached himself to the winning horse, so to speak.

I think this is EU (well, it's from Heir to the Empire, Timothy Zahn, so), but it mentions how great Thrawn must have been to be declared a Grand Admiral, considering Palpatine's anti-alien policies and beliefs.

Then you look at the Empire in the OT, and it's all white guys.;)

So I wonder if we will see any overt policy getting rid of "alien" influence in the Republic.

Probably not, considering the Senate just gets disbanded at the start of ANH.

Mas could very well hold onto a position of political power for the next 20 years.

Is it possible there are members within the governing body of the Republic that know of Sidious' plot and are helping him?

This could be one of Palpatine's mind games though. Mas Ameeda may have brought up a very important point to Valorum, and when Palpatine saw him whispering he saw it as a good opportunity to show Padme how bad things are. I personally think that Mr Ameeda has no idea of who Palpatine is, or his goals. I think you'll see him disapear when the Empire comes into power.

quite possible tAW, never thought of it that way. good point.

Yet, IIRC, it was Palpatine playing up to...Mas Amedda about how tragic it was that Senator Amidala wasn't there to vote, while that poor sap Jar-Jar looked on.

It's quite possible Mas doesn't know who Palpatine truly is, but I think he's in on the plan to get Palps as much power as possible.

power and the money, money and the power. minute after minute - hour after hour.

Why are we so blind to see....

alright, I'll stop, but I just realized "gangsta's paradise" is the perfect theme song for the Republic in the PT. [face_laugh]

    Aesop- Interesting thought.
I immediately start to think of Sly Moore,
that white spooky woman standing next to Palpatine in his office.
I am told she is of a species that has the ability to control the minds of people.
Maybe she´s in on the whole thing?

Is she the one who has her bald head sticking out of the tube like outfit she's in? If that's who I'm thinking of, I think her arms are in the tube outfit too, right? It would be pretty funny to push her off the Chancellor's platform.

    Yeah, anyways..

I don't think Mas Ameeda will die, because he isn't a major character that deserves an on screen death.

Yes, goodfellas, Sly Moore is the bald woman in the oddball outfit.

Besides Sly Moore being a very, very, cool name, is it true that she has the abilities to control minds? That could be an interesting new sub-plot in an already chock-full episode.

I'm gonna go check the confirmed Characters list for her.

EDIT-- She's confirmed and being played by Sandi Finlay. Here's her IMDB page.

The OS chimes in about the mind-control powers with: "Moore's enigmatic countenance derives from her Umbaran heritage. She is from a breed of near-humans hailing from a shadowed planet deep in the Ghost Nebula. Umbarans have an eerie reputation for being able to influence -- perhaps even control -- the minds of others. "
