I've been talking to Rosie via our preferred IM applications about what we're going to do when "Revenge of the Sith" is out, so with her blessing, I'm starting the May meet thread now.

I am going to assume everyone wants to see the digital version of the movie. Fortunately, the Loews Theater on Tremont St. is fully digital, so that might be where we're going to see it. If anyone knows of a better, but still centrally-located (and hopefully T-accessible) digital theater in the area, let us know.

As far as when, I've never been to a midnight screening, but then again, I don't want to, as I usually have company over at my apartment in the morning and I like to be fully rested for those visits. Does it matter to the rest of you when we see it (and of course, you're always free to go to a local midnight screening independently of a Rebels meet)?

Just a couple of things to think about. :)

Update: I guess we've settled on the following:

Where: Loews Liberty Tree Mall, Danvers
When: Sunday, May 22, meet @ theater lobby @ noon, movie @ 1:30 PM
Online ticket purchases can be made here.

Other details will be announced here as soon as they're available.

Well I think it's a given that there will be a group of us who will want to do the midnight showing. The premiere can be a big event if we want it to be, or we could just go to relax and enjoy the movie. I don't really care if you guys want to do the midnight showing or another showing as the month's official meet. We should just start talking about this so we have adequate time to plan. :)

Another thing to think about when considering the when and where questions is that although midnight screenings are nice, the T stops running by the time a midnight screening of the movie is over.

Doesn't the T stop running before midnight now? I thought they cut their late-night service? I know that the last train out of North Station (at least for the commuter rail - heading north) is at 12am.

On a side note: What about an IMAX screening? I know AotC wasn't released in IMAX until 1-2 months after the theatrical release, but they are moving a lot faster with making an IMAX version now and are showing it in almost the same timeframe. The price for an IMAX ticket is only a couple of dollars more and the experience is amazing [face_hypnotized]!

Yep, that's true...so in order to make a midnight showing work, we'd need people with cars to help get everyone home. Or we could rent a hotel room or two and squeeze people in just for the night. I don't live very far from the Boston Common theater, so if someone could get me back to my room I could host a couple people for the night (one on the floor, one on the futon).

I mentioned IMAX in my conversation w/ Rosie, but she seemed sure it would take time for RotS to appear in IMAX form. Looking on the "Coming Soon" section of the IMAX site, it appears to be true. There is also nothing new about it elsewhere, including TF.N.

I should be back from CT by the 19th and hopefully my parents wouldn't be so over protective that they would not allow me to go to the midnight showing because it would be fun to go to the midnight showing.

    A couple things to note:

1 - The movie opens on a Thursday this time around...why not Wed? No clue.

2 - There's a good chance an IMAX version will be like AOTC and you will not see the entire movie as you would seeing it in a theatre. So you have to see them both. Yeah, that's right, I said have to! =p Besides, how could you wait that long anyway?

I forgot to mention in my last post that RotS isn't even listed in the "Coming Soon" part of the IMAX site...yes, I could've edited it, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

Dex, thanks for alerting me about the date. The other 2 prequel movies were released on a Wednesday, so I assumed May 19, 2005 was a Wednesday also. So a Wednesday night/Thursday morning means I can risk losing sleep. [face_laugh]

RotS may not be in the Coming Attractions area but there aren't any movies (not including documentaries or other such movies) that project beyond March anyway. If you go to the IMAX homepage there is going to be a showing of the animated movie Robots which will release in IMAX the same day as in theaters.

I think the biggest flaw would be like Dex said, they'll probably have to do a little cutting here and there to make it fit. In AotC the only whole scene to be cut (I think) was the picnic scene with Anakin and Padme.

I believe Lucas (and his people) chose Thursday May 19th as the release date because that's the exact same date SW:ANH debuted. May 19, 1977.

I can understand why Lucas would want to release the last Star Wars Movie on the same date as he released the first one, it would be somewhat sentimental in a way becuase they would be the same day.

    May 19, 1977 was a Thursday.
    May 19, 2005 is a Thursday.

    That's some good timing, Lucas.
Any other year would put the day-of-the-week off by a day or three.

    May 19, 2004 was a Wednesday.
    May 19, 2006 is a Friday.
    May 19, 2007 is a Saturday.
    May 19, 2008 is a Monday.
    May 19, 2009 is a Tuesday.
    May 19, 2010 is a Wednesday.
and finally, May 19, 2011 is a Thursday.

    George can't wait until 2011. ;)

THAT IS VERY GOOD TIMING...I would have hated to wait until 2011 if Lucas wanted to put ROTS on the exact same day as ANH.

Just found out today that my only final that week is on Wednesday, which makes me totally free for all this craziness! That makes me very happy. :D

    **BUMP**

So what's everyone doing for the release of RotS? Is there going to be a get-together for the midnight screening?

As of right now, I'm planning on going to the charity release on the 12th.
And I'll be helping out the Rebel Legion on the 22nd at the Lowe's in Danvers. It's a joint operation with the 501st.
If there's a group going in Boston (or surrounding area) during any Mon or Tue I'd be happy to go along.

It was decided at the meet on Sunday that everyone is on their own for the premiere. Everyone's too spread out that coordinating rides would be very difficult. A lot of FanForces make a big event out of the premiere, but we're just not big enough for that. Which makes me sad, but oh well. It'll be less stressful this way anyway.

I'll probably be seeing it with some friends at the Boston Common Loews, midnight showing.

However, I would like us to go and see this as a group for the May meet. :)

It might be a good idea to go that weekend, either on Saturday 21st or Sunday the 22nd. The following weekend is Memorial Day weekend and will probably be tough for people to get together, especially for me since it's my anniversary :D.

Sunday the 22nd sounds good to me! Anyone have any other suggestions? Objections?

That Sunday would be perfect. If there are no other objections to that date, I could try changing the subject of this thread to include the date (if I can't, then Meriwyn will have to do it, I guess) and edit the first post to update the information (since that's where people will be looking). :D

Let's wait until Monday to set the date. That'll give people some time to object/suggest something else. You should have no problem editing the title of the thread and the content of your first post at that point, since we have unlimited editing time. :)

It is a bit out of the way for those tranportationally challenged, but as previously mentioned the 501st/Rebel Legion are doing a joint event at the Lowe's theatre in Danvers on the 22nd. Just something to throw out there.
There is a commuter rail station relatively close, but my car can only hold so many ;)

As long as I can make it I can help and pick up a couple of people at the train station as well. I'll be bringing my son so I can fit 3 more people in my car.
