Two years ago, one of the early rumours was that Michael Jackson was somehow involved with Attack of the Clones, presumably in the shady role of the mysterious Darth Kimball, who was first seen in a cameo role in The Phantom Menace.

Watch the credits carefully. Down the middle column... one of the digital animators, it seems. Michael Jackson.

So the rumours were only partially true. Michael Jackson WAS involved with AOTC, but it wasn't the Michael Jackson we were initially thinking of! It follows that Darth Kimball has indeed returned in a digital cameo in AOTC! I will have to look for him upon my third viewing. Did anyone else catch him?

This suggests that it is highly likely we will see him again in an expanded role in Episode III, not Episode II as initially speculated.

True, IP, but didn't GL change the casting for Kimball at the last minute from Michael JAckson to Christopher Lloyd?

Perhaps it is Christopher Lloyd - but not until Kimball appears fully in Episode III. So far, he has been in easily disguisable cameos, perhaps even digitally created ones.

This is not unlike how the Emperor was originally Clive Revill.

Mr. Lucas did ask MJ if he would like
to write the love theme for AOTC back
18 to 20 months ago. MJ had too busy
a schedule then, being under major
pressure form Sony-CBS for a new album.
And he had already agreed to write music
and have cameo role as an alien in
    Men In Black 2.

    What if?

No, I know the REAL truth. See according to the now defuct supershadow.com site (congrats, Supershadow on your own downfall-- please don't get back up), Darth Gumball was played by Michael Jackson, then Christopher Lloyd, then some other old guy, then some other dance guy (MC Hammer, anyone?), but lastly, Lucas decided to go with the TRUE Darth (darth) Gumball (Gumbel) and issue the part to Bryant Gumbel.

Prepare for a worse performance than Connie Chung at Skywalker Ranch if you haven't seen it yet. RUN FOR SHELTER! Ack!

Disclaimer: Just kidding on the stuff above-- anybody else notice the absence of Supershadow?? Of course not. :p

There was a pic, but I think someone in their right mind erased it off the internet. Only a jedi can erase information from the Internet.

I'm not sure exactly where, but I believe Kimball did indeed show up as an anomalous lightsabre colour in the background, something that was indeed rumoured to appear.

I'll check on my fourth viewing of the film.

Kimball's mere presence was what made AOTC so great, I can't wait for him to finally be fully revealed in Ep. 3. Once the prequel trilogy is complete, Kimball shall forever be revered as the single greatest character in movie history.
