While it would be heresy to introduce a new ship for Han Solo or to radically alter Falcon's look...some 30 years or more have passed (probably).

It is highly unlikely that Mr. Solo hasn't stayed up to date with all the latest tricks to put up his sleeve - and inside the legendary ship's hidden compartments.

I think it would be a great opportunity to show some new tricks and weapons that we've (hopefully) never seen before, used in the nick of time to save the day.
At the same time, I think they would need to be very careful not to overdo it.

    Thoughts?

Whether or not we see the Falcon will depend on whether or not Harrison Ford is in the movie. If he is, then count on seeing the Falcon, if not forget it. We know that the Falcon has bee heavily modified under the hood, but her first line of defence is the fact that unless you know the Falcon as intimately Han, Luke and Leia, she looks like just another tramp freighter.

I just imagined the Falcon as Solo's classic car all shined up and fancy sitting in his spaceport. So then Leia is gets mad at him cause he spends all his time "tuning" the Falcon!

Han's idea of tuning the Falcon is loosening all the bolts.

    One slight modification: cloaking device.

That would be quite an interesting addition.
And would send Needa spinning in his grave.

    Heresy? Yes.
    Cool? Also yes.

The falcon was always a 'sleeper' so as long as it looks like crap (or at least stock) then they can upgrade it.

As long as the Falcon isn't sporting that ridiculously huge gun I saw in an EU drawing. Oh man, talk about yuk!

If Han isn't in the movie, give us the Falcon, back in the hands of its old owner Lando. As far as the condition of the ship, most of the charm in the original trilogy, came from the fact that it did not function correctly (George's used future concept.) So in a sequel do you go back to the old gag of the ship constantly breaking down? If you fix it up its just another ship. On the other hand, if the movie takes place a generation after the OT, is it realistic to expect the ship to still be around but fixed up with whatever rewards Han received for his service to the rebellion.

Probably not much has changed to the Falcon. I am sure the Lando had the satellite dish replaced. But there would be no need for any real upgrades for two reasons...
    1) The Empire is no more, who would they have to escape from?
    2) Han is not a smuggler anymore.

I think if we see the Falcon it will be in little glimpses, remember you don't need to see the Falcon to tell the story of Star Wars.

Adding new gadgets and tricks to the Falcon most certainly don't mean that it will be functioning more smoothly or that they will alter the ship's appearance.

JediKnightOB1 1) I'm sure there are quite a few people who still pose a threat to Han and the others, plus destroying the Death Star and killing Palpatine didn't instantly vaporize the entire Empire. I'm not talking EU here, just common sense.

    2) If he's not a smuggler, that doesn't mean he stops tampering with his ship, which he obviously loves to do and not only for smuggling reasons.

I find it very illogical that in the many years that pass since ROTJ and EP7, Han doesn't add a single new technology to his ship. Unless he's just keeping it in the garage while he runs his fleet or something.

I envision someone will have "upgraded" the ship much to Han's chagrin. Cue crusty old bastard berating young whippersnapper.

Not to be cynical but I'm sure we'll see a plethora of new ships, weapons and technology for three big reasons

1 It's a whole new film which will more than likely take place at minimum, several decades after Return of the Jedi- most especially IF any number of the original cast returns.

2 Having said that, the prop department will be busy creating these new toys

3 And..... since the franchise has its financial foundations IN toys.... a possibly upgraded version of the Falcon is a given. So not only will we see a welcome return of the Falcon but you can be sure there will be a matching toy on the shelves near the films release

I can see Han Solo as a rich guy, with a business about ships renting, and all his ships are still a bit of a disaster, but they are fast. They are the "Solo Ship Company".

I like this idea. It is one of my own, Han would keep it classic and keep it shiny..

The Falcon will be on "cinder blocks in front of the Solo trailer park. Leia will be preggers with a cigarette in one hand and a can of cheap beer in another. Solo spawn will be running amock and breaking stuff that was already broken. ;)

after reading this and carrie fisher thread, i fear this will turn into a cheap-coach-trip for pensioners.

i say, cut them all out and make a whole new Star Wars. I dont want to see 70 year old han giving 60 year old leia a tongue kiss...ewww...[face_sick]

    [face_laugh]

seriously, give us some new heros!!!!

Yeah, a cloaking device would be nice! Other than that though, I'm not sure I want to see any major aesthetic modifications to the Falcon. Maybe it has a faster engine and can now do the Kessel run in even less parsecs?

I really want to see a scene with Han and Leia's son taking the Falcon off without permission to impress a girl. In an asteroid field. Like father, like son...

I absolutely agree, the story should move on and give us new stuff. But if the Classic gang is in the first movie (I hope only in a supporting role, maybe except Luke who would be a biiit more present) it is reasonable to see the Falcon again :)

Unless those designers can design a ship beautiful enough to out-Falcon the Falcon, than perhaps, a Falcon II? But I am fine if they use it as it is, I still like the MF!

So far, I really like the Corellian ships KOTOR and TOR designers came up with. Especially, the Ebon Hawk!

"Son I don't want to see a scratch on it, mkey?"
    "Sure, dad, whatever."
    3 hours later
    "Son, where's my ship?"
"I had a run in with some bounty hunters. They thought that you were aboard. So they took it."
    "And you just let them?"
"They looked pretty scary...they had like these blasters and..."
"You know, son, back in my day when we were chased by bounty hunters and the Empire..."
"I know, you already told me that story 100 times."
"Anyway, I flew the Falcon right into an asteroid field and...wait...what was I saying?"
"That you lost your ship in an asteroid field. Now put your teeth back in the jar and take your medicine, dad."
    "Kids these days..."
