Mindless Self Indulgence (commonly referred to as MSI) is a New York City-based, American band. They describe their music as "industrial jungle ***** punk". Their music is a blend of punk rock, nu metal, techno, electro, and hip-hop.


Intentionally iconoclastic, lead singer James Euringer (who uses the stage name Jimmy Urine) often appears onstage at concerts wearing flamboyant fishnet material, fishnet shirts, shorts or pants with the inside cut out (with the result looking similar to a skirt), and neon stockings. Euringer's outfits and antics are often the focal point of live shows.

Another significant influence to the band is early 1980s culture. MSI's music frequently contains samples of early '80s hip-hop or rock, as well as Atari-style beeps and tones. Many of Urine's dress styles consist of juxtapositions of popular 1980s clothing or bastardizations thereof.

Mindless Self Indulgence is distinct from mainstream rock in their incorporation of lyrics about being gay, and related topics, into several of their songs - even going so far as to title one of their songs **** Also, Euringer and guitarist Steve, Righ? possess and use wide vocal ranges, stretching from tenor to high falsetto. The band also has no qualms about using words deemed offensive by the mainstream, such as n**** and **** heavily in many of their songs. No topic is too offensive or sensitive not to be ridiculed. Suicide (Backmask), Paedophilia (Panty Shot), and masturbation (Masturbates) are just a few of the topics lampooned by the band.

They have opened for a number of popular modern bands including System of a Down, Korn, Sum 41, Mushroomhead, Insane Clown Posse, and Rammstein, as well as having now-popular bands open for them on headlining tours, such as My Chemical Romance, Deadsy, and Kill Hannah. They have also played many large musical festivals including Voodoo Music Experience in 2003 and 2005, as well as headlining the Mojave tent at the 2004 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
