Brian can't come out right now. He's been a very naughty boy.

History of the World Part I.

Most of Monty Python is at the same level as it, but Life of Brian is a little below that level, IMO.

History of the World, Part I.

Now, if this were a choice between that and Holy Grail, it'd be a much tougher choice. [face_thinking]

Life of Brian is one of the greatest satires ever made. It's just so damn funny when you're familiar with the time period it's set in. That being said I agree that Fawlty Towers is better.

Spaceballs was amusing the first few times, but its only gotten increasingly annoying with age.

I have not seen Life of Brian. History Of The World Part 1 had a couple of funny parts at best.

I used to think something similar about Spaceballs. It was painfully unfunny when I saw it again after a while. A few years later it came on again and it was hilarious again for some reason.

Maybe, and especially as a SW Fan, we should only watch it onces every 5 years or so :p

That might be the issue. It does seem that my apathy may be the result of the movie being overplayed (similar to Thumb Wars) so less frequency might reinvigorate the funny, but right now I can't be bothered out of dread of watching the same old jokes that just don't make me laugh. :p

Neither one are remotely close to being their respective filmmakers' finest works (my personal choices are Holy Grail and Blazing Saddles, but that's subjective). Still, they're very good comedies and still beat out 95% of comedy films that have been thrown out recently.

On that note, gotta throw in Woody Allen and make it a triumvirate. Everything You Need To Know About Sex (But Were Afraid To Ask) is every bit as funny as any Monty Python or Mel Brooks film.

I always thought that Holy Grail was Monty Python's best. Everything else was just "bland". I cant find the word that fits there.

As for Mel Brooks, theres so many good ones, The Producers has been almost a mega hit, with Young Frankenstein following, besides how can you forget that Brooks created Get Smart.

As much as people like to tout Young Frankenstein, I have to agree with Maddux on Blazing Saddles as Brooks's best. With YF I feel like I need to sit down and watch it from beginning to end, but BS* I can watch it anytime, starting at any point, though beginning to end is still the best.

*knowing Brooks, those initials are no accident.

We watched EYNTKAS the other night, and then followed it up with Python's Meaning of Life (which is closer to History of the World Part I to me than Life of Brian).

Gene Wilder and the sheep was just...disturbing, though.
