[Mostly Wallace & Gromit] Aardman Animation

So, I recall saying I though Chicken Run fell a bit flat in Mar's Animated Movies thread a few months back. I caught it again a few weeks back, and was thoroughly enchanted.

There's a new Wallace and Gromit short "A Matter of Loaf and Death" coming your way on Christmas Day if you live in the UK or in the seedier side of the internet.

And even better, Telltale Games (Sam & Max, Strong Bad, Bone) will release Wallace & Gromit videogames. Downloadable, small (2-3 hour playtime) episodic adventure games in 2009. For PC and most likely Wii (not downloadable for Wii, but bundled into a 'Season' after all the PC episodes have been released). The first episode of "Grand Adventures" has just been previewed here and looks amazing.

Matter of Loaf and Death was utterly brilliant and took the Christmas TV ratings prize, as I recall.

In that new Monty Python documentary IFC showed, Terry Jones and Michael Palin visited the Aardman Animation studios, because they have a project they're working with them on.

 

The train chase in The Wrong Trousers may be my favorite bit of animation ever made.

I dunno if it was specifically referenced as such, but the door-chase sequence in Monsters, Inc. seemed to be a direct-homage to Aardman in that regard.

I was being completely serious, really. StS airs Sundays as part of the Sendung mit der Maus, one of the greatest TV shows ever. A few weeks ago they even visited Aardman studios and showed how they make the animations. Amazing stuff.

I just spent about 45 minutes playing that 4x4 game... It's pretty fun.
