Mother knows best

“Giano! Why?” Long blonde strands flying in the wind Lizzy Konola began to run on the beach after the fast moving young man.

“I am going away. This planet is horrible and no, you cannot follow me.”

“Why?” Lizzy slowed down when Giano turned.

“I am in love with Laura Kanara and she lives on Coruscant.”

“I knew it.” Lizzy began to pound Giano on his chest. “You met her in that sleazy bar at the spaceport just before we boarded a transport bound for this watery world.”

“And she is the one.” Giano walked away turning his head once “Sorry Lizzy.”

Lizzy sank down on the soft sand and began to cry.

A soft sound of a boat coming nearer. Stopping.

Splashes.

“What's wrong with you?”

Lizzy looked up to see the face of a handsome young man. “My uh friend left. I am all alone.” Wimpering. “I want to go home.”

“I can bring you home. This way to the city?”

“N nn no. I uh used to live on Kuat before Giano took me on a journey to see the beauty of the various planets. After Anaxes and Coruscant we got on a liner to Pangona. And he.” She began to cry.

“Left you to go to another love. I can bring you back to Kuat.”

“You uh can?” Lizzy wiped the tears from her face.

“I can. Come with me to the space-port. And let me introduce myself. I am Tarkan Er-Veridan.”

Kado Konola was hugging Lizzy. His adventurous daughter, running away with the lover-boy Giano Sonoli despite his protests, was back.

Her mother Carola had a snug smile on her face when she saw the pilot from Pangona guiding a large crate towards his transport.

The man stopped with a smile on his face.

Carola turned to her daughter. “Mother knows best. Listen to your mother. It's a scary world out there. Mother knows best.”

Aww, poor Lizzy! She must have expected a grand adventure when she left home with Giano, only for it to end in the worst possible way. Not only does she learn he’s cheating on her, he dumps her on a strange planet far from home, apparently with no means of getting back. What an absolute sleemo Lizzy is fortunate that Tarkan comes along and is moved by her plight. Glad to see that she makes it back home safely to her parents. Perhaps now Lizzy will be a little more inclined to listen to her mother’s advice—it can be a scary and dangerous world out there. But for all that it is, there are still good and decent people like Tarkan, and I hope that Lizzy will remember that, too.

What a character, that Giano! He's kind of a hopeless romantic, in a sleazy sort of way. At least he's honest?

I have a feeling it won't be long before Lizzy is off on another adventure. Hopefully she'll have the sense to keep in contact with her folks and not be dependent on some man-boy's favour for shelter and transportation. You gotta empower your daughter, Carola!

This was a fun little vignette and a great response to the challenge!

 

I, too, wonder if Lizzy will really listen to her mother after this experience. Methinks she's likely to follow another tall dark stranger again when the opportunity presents itself before the message sinks in. She was lucky that Tarkan found her on Pangona and flew her home (incidentally, I love how the thread that links all your Pangona stories is Tarkan rescuing people in need of a ride home!) Giano comes across as such a total jerk in his brief appearance; it's unfortunate that those who had to do with him won't be around to tell Laura Kanara what she's truly dealing with – although, sadly, chances are that she'll find out soon enough!

 

Great response to the challenge. Lizzy was indeed fortunate to encounter Tarkan. Giano is doubtless full of himself thinking he's IT I'm glad that Lizzy is back in the safe circle of her family and hopefully she's learned her lesson.

 

I enjoyed this, even though I see that song as inherently sinister and deliciously so. I’m going to have to read more in this fanon to understand the nuances of whether it is this way again. I think Gianon is a cad, which is a word I don’t use lightly. If you have a recommendation for what to read next, please let me know.

As it stands on its own, I enjoy reading things in this era. It’s refreshing to explore a time with more open-ended scenarios and I like the solidity of your relationships in this fic.

 

Giano sure is a sleemo and a lover-boy. But there is Tarkan to the rescue. And Lizzy's mother is the over-protecting mother hen. It was fun to write this

And with her over-protective mother she can or...?

I love to write about the high republic and this was a great way to tell more about my characters like Tarkan Er-Veridan who as a Dunai elder will also appear in stories set years after the events of LOTF
