Ok so I've got some questions about Talzin that I haven't found answers for and I'd really appreciate some answers:

    1. In Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir issue #3 it is revealed that Talzin is Darth Maul's mother. How can he be her offspring if they're obviously from different species? This could be answered in that she was just his surrogate mother, but if that's the case...

    2. What makes Maul so special if she was just his surrogate mother? She sacrificed her entire tribe to help Asaj Ventress and didnt show any special treatment to any of her other "daughters".

If she is his biological mother for some reason then that means Savage Opress and Feral were also her offspring, since as far as I know they are all brothers; unless they were only members of the same tribe, as in "nightbrothers"... clarification on that would be helpful. If they were biological brothers then she only saw Savage as a tool and made him kill Feral in cold blood... damn. So umm I guess the question now is...

    3. Did she do all of this just for the really slim chance that she could kill Darth Sidius and get her revenge?

Answers on these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.:)

She's not his birth mother and how it works is, basically the mother of the clan is the leader but everyone calls her mother. If you read Courtship of Princess Leia, it pretty well explains how the whole structure works.

The Night sisters are one clan, and the Singing Mountain Clan are the light side users. They also have one they all refer to as mother. Everyone in the clans consider each other as brothers and sisters.

So no she's not the birth mother but treats everyone in the clan as if they were her own. It's more like a spiritual type bond.

The females capture the males in a weird ritual and can take them as their husbands. The females rule the tribes. In a way since there are only so many planet side to begin with, they're all related to each other one way or another.

No she isn't but is most likely related to him in one way or another.

The comic writer(s) discussed this question, and based on the scripts and CW writer's commentary - Talzin is indeed the biological mother of Maul. That was the intent of the writers, so opinion doesn't come into play. While "Mother" is a clan title that she carries, she is also Maul's birth mother. We know that Savage and Maul are blood brothers, but at no time was it established that Savage is also her birth son. They could have different mothers and share a father perhaps. Its also possible that she is the biological mother of multiple Nightbrothers / Nightsisters, but that would only be an assumption, as there is no evidence of that in the series.
