Got any questions about movie toys, past or present? Maybe I can answer them.

    I'll start with one:

Have you ever wondered why Kenner, for their Batman Returns movie toyline, never made a proper Danny Devito Penguin figure, instead releasing a repainted version of the Super Powers Penguin figure?

Well, apparently there were two reasons. One, Kenner assumed the movie version was a bit too gruesome for kids, and did the usual cost-cutting actions the toy industry does by releasing a repainted version of the Super Powers figure.

Also, Danny Devito didn't sign off on his likeness being used for toys, so there was that. That was the reason why the Batman: The Animated Series Penguin figure was pulled off the market, because it was based on the movie design (I actually had that figure. Now I know why it was so rare after I found it).

Also, the reason why the Batman Returns movie toyline has a Robin is a story unto itself.

I always assumed it was because the Tim Drake Robin was recently introduced into the comics, and Kenner wanted to naturally make a figure off that, but originally there was plans for Marlon Wayans to appear in the film as a young mechanic who would've became Robin, and this was a figure off that idea, before it was cut from the film (Stuff like this happens all the time; see the TNG cast's uniforms for Playmates' Star Trek Generations toyline). The fact the figure has a Kid 'n Play-style hairdo belies its origins as a Marlon Wayans figure, before it was retooled into a kinda-sorta Tim Drake Robin.
