Alright, other places are talking about this, and in a way it's big computer news considering Microsft And AOL are two of Internet's biggest players.

They are both going to release NEW softwares, new services to it's subscribers, and hoping to steal/keep members.

MSN 8

See a flash Demo on preview.msn.com or right here.

Features that impress me...

Email
Advanced Email options - Built-in Photo editing tools like red eye removal, rotate, crop, resize. As well as word art, picture cards, emoticons. With stationaries, and designer templates.

Hotmail/Group service - 30mb Groups; 10mb HotMail storage space

MSN 8 Browser

MSN Learning and Research

Just buy Microsoft Encarta DVD :)

MSN Calendar

Very Cooler looking...

Else...

Parental Control, Spam filter

It has a very detailed setting on those.
No, these MSN 8 services won't all come Free! :(

[image=http://home.wi.rr.com/srch/img/msn8_join.JPG]

MSN Broadband is $40, dialup is $21.95. $9.95 is for those with other ISPs. All are per month basis.

These are for MSN Internet Access services. Don't worry, www.msn.com, a portal will always be free, for now!

MSN 8 comes out OCT 24th.
Trying to Battle with Microsoft MSN 8 is the New...

AOL 8 aka AO-HELL ]:)

[image=http://www.thedarkcyde.com/images/aol/new.jpg]

A new Interface, and ability to use skins? Ok, I admit it looks better... but no where compares to MSN 8's Advanced features.

AOL 8 Comes out OCT 15th, or 24th (Same day as MSN 8)? I am not certain, but that's what I might heard.

And, MSN messenger 5, I have very little info, but it will have some updates that areI'll let you know more.

Personal opinion - MSN 8 is the BEST version of MSN yet. However, I won't put money in either DAMN services. For me, there are always ways I can find out information on the Internet for FREE. A lot of people are just completely clueless about computers, and this is a great tool/service plan for them. Not me, although the MSN 8 software is nice to use. It looks a lot better/useful than MSN 7... just not going to pay to use it!

I hate online services starts to charge people damn money for whatever little services. It does NOT bode well... I am really afraid a lot of other services like hotmail, groups.yahoo/mail.yahoo going to do the same ONE day. They just don't do that only cuz of the Ads, which is fine by me as long as it's free to use.

And the only thing GAYOL is better at is really not a AOL feature, but rather that Millions of friends, co-workers foolishly use it! And, exclusive Chat events that's unfairly just limited to AOL members.

My verdict: Unless you are already MSN and AOL users, there is NO need to waste money on both of these two products/services.

P.S: Better get your hands on Windows XP now, because Windows 'LongHorn' is a long wait. It's being pushed back!!

I'll post more SS when I find them, in the future sometime.

The only internet related tool I pay for is my ISP.

And that's the way its going to stay...they start charging, I'll go to something else.

Until Gates controls ALL, then I'll be forced to pay!!!

Or maybe that's just what he wants me to think...

I laugh in the face of AOL

*spits*

In the old days I must confess to subscribing to Compuserve - but that was the old days on a 28.8k modem.

From that above article, people are expected to pay $10 to use the MSN software on their current ISP. Whats about ? I thought it was free [face_plain]

can someone explain ?

Good thing I get their crappy service for free, eh ?

Call me stupid, but why does anybody need AOL or MSN Explorer? I mean, you can get everything you need from the internet with just IE or Netscape. You can get Internet Messaging seperately via Yahoo, MSN IM, AIM, or ICQ. For E-mail, you've got Outlook Express, or whatever.

I mean, is there a single feature of MSN or AOL that isn't redundant?

Aside from all that though, tell me more about MSN Messenger 5- how can I get it, what are the improvements, etc? I'm currently using version 4.7... and wasn't aware that version 5 was coming.

And,
MSN Today

Notice slight Interface changes.

On Windows XP MSN messenger 5 does NOT replace Windows Messenger 4.7 it just takes over.

Ah, okay, I see what I was missing. Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are two different programs.

Looks like version 5 doesn't really offer me anything cool... except that if I had both running simultaneously, I could be signed in to two seperate Passport accounts at the same time. That might be worth it.

How are MSN Messenger and Windows® Messenger different?

Windows XP comes with Windows Messenger, which remains available even after MSN Messenger 5.0 is installed on your computer.

Here are some things to keep in mind:
Only Windows Messenger can connect to the Communications Service and Exchange Instant Messaging, which are only used in corporations.
Some programs, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, and Remote Assistance, connect to Windows Messenger by default. When you are signed in to MSN Messenger, you may appear offline to people who connect to these programs and have you listed as a contact.
MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger can run at the same time, but only one will start automatically. You can start the other program from your list of programs (in Windows, click the Start button, point to All Programs, and then click the program you want to start).
In most cases, MSN Messenger will start automatically whenever you start Windows, unless you turn off this setting in your Messenger options. However, if you have set up Windows Messenger for corporate instant messaging and to start automatically when you start Windows, then it will continue in this manner and MSN Messenger will not start automatically.
You can be signed in to both MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger at the same time, but not with the same .NET Passport account. For instance, you can sign in to MSN Messenger with your Passport and then sign in to Windows Messenger with a different Passport account or with your corporate instant messaging account.
When both programs are running, you will see icons for each in your Windows taskbar (near your computer's clock). You can tell them apart by pointing to them with your mouse. When you point to an icon, a message appears telling you which program it is.
If you are signed in to one Messenger program with your Passport and then sign in to the other one using the same account, you will be automatically signed out of the first program.
