Hi - I'm posting this here because I figure it's got the biggest concentration of people interested in Star Wars Fan Films - that would be all of you , the Fan Filmaker elite!

So like the subject says, I've got a VHS copy of the legendarily infamous FEATURE-LENGTH fan film "Quest of the Jedi" that I'm looking to give away. This isn't a dub or an nth generation copy - it's one of the copies the filmaker David Zaritsky made and sold himself - its in a sturdy clamshell case complete with artwork. I picked it up about 10 years ago at a scifi convention, watched it a few times, then stored it away in my closet. I took a look at it the other day and the tape and picture are still good.

So - about the "film". Quest of the Jedi, aka "Episode Ten" was a fan film made in the early 90's and had Jaina (sp?) Solo, daughter of Han and Leia, as its main character, played by the filmakers' wife (or more likely, his sister). She flies around the galaxy with her Weequay sidekick trying to find the pieces of some scepter before "Lord Calbos" (a fat guy in a red stormtrooper outfit) does, dodging bounty hunters, and carving up ATATs with her lightsaber as she goes. If you ever wanted to know how NOT to make a Star Wars Fan Film - this is the movie for you. Quest of the Jedi was made long before the days of desktop video editing - it was obviously done with a cheap camcorder, and dubbed and edited using off-the-shelf vcr equipment. The special effects have to be seen to be believed - there's Admiral Ackbar as a sock puppet. 2 toilet paper tubes glued to a stick for a treadwell droid. Vacation footage from the Star Tours ride spliced in for a C3PO scene. Lasers that always shoot perfectly horizontal. Toys and models filmed against a tv screen. AND ITS NOT DONE FOR LAUGHS. The film takes itself VERY seriously. But it does have it own special low-tech charm and it can be downright hillarious at times. Definately worth a look. The most amazing thing is that the film is 90 MINUTES LONG. At least I think it was that long - when watching Quest of the Jedi, time seems to lose all meaning. There's even some footage at the end from a local news piece about a "brand-new Star Wars movie!", years before the Phantom Menace was released.

Here's what the back of the box says (I'll have pictures posted in a bit):
"It is a precarious time for the New Republic. the once scattered remnants of the Empire have found unity under Lord Calbos, A Dark Lord of the Sith. However, the possibility of the New Empire becoming an even greater threat looms ominously over the galaxy as they begin a search for a Jedi artifact that would be able to destroy the Light Side of the Force. The galaxy's only hope is a reluctant young Jedi who is catapulted into an adventure as large as the galaxy?Come with us now as we join old friends and meet new ones in this live action Star Wars amateur film."

I'm not looking to sell this or make any money off this, at all. I don't think it would be right to put in on ebay, none of my friends are that into Star Wars and I don't have the heart to to just throw it away - so its got no where to go but here. I just want it to go to someone who will I thought that this would be a good place to start to find someone who will appreciate owning it and especially watching it. Idealy I'd like to find someone who's going to want to get this thing up on the internet to share with the worldwide community of Star Wars fans (something I don't have the resources to do personally) and not somebody that's just looking to score a free collectible.

So if you want to own and help preserve a piece of Star Wars Fan Film history, drop me a line and let me know what you plan to do with it if I send it to you.

Thanks for letting a non-filmaker take up some of your valuable time and web board space. The Fan Film community has certainly come a long, LONG way since the dark days of "Quest of the Jedi". I just want you all to know that I truly admire and respect all the hard work, imagination and dedication you guys all put into your films. You've given m

Ahhhh, someone else who has a copy of the legendary Quest of the Jedi.

This film was made pre the CG days so all the effects are done in camera (models being held in front of the lens and all that).

It's a groovy film to have and I give David Z an A++ in making it, but by GAWD IT'S LONG!!!!!

Honestly, anyone who can sit through its two hour running time deserves an encouragement award. We ended up making badges saying "I stayed awake through QofJ" and so on.

So get a copy of this film, give it the super digital edit, chop it down to 15 mins and it might end up being a TRUE classic.

I sent Dorkman the tape about a week ago - so he should have it by now - hopefully it won't be too long before we see some footage online.

I got it yesterday, I'll have to digitize it soon. Currently with the project I'm rotoing I have no disk space, but by the end of the month I should be able to clear some. I'll get it up as soon as I can.

Morgan, I am just picking up on the vague vibe, but I would think that he was probably talking up what he is doing for the "Contract of Evil" guy... :/
