Here she is in the opening (gal with glasses)

I'm really not sure how to react to this. I despise these kinds of shows--they take people who are clearly in need of help, are in tremendous pain, and exploit them for entertainment--reminds me of the Roman Empire's form of "entertainment" although not physically brutal...just mental. After the show, my cousin did NOT get better at all. In fact, she's recently gotten into more trouble than ever before.

Why do people go on these shows? My family couldn't understand why our cousins went on as they also provided no answer other than wanting "help." Seriously there are plenty of other places to go for help.

Not only that, but it was painful to see family members on one of those shows...

    :_|

Has anyone else had a family member go on one of these Jerry Springer-esque shows? What was their reasoning behind it? Did the show help them?

My cousin was on the Steve Wilkos show...

And you would admit this....why exactly?

Though to be fair Jerry Springer (and I guess Steve, since he's playing the same game) at least has the decency to rag on these people and not be two-faced about it.

Unlike Maury, who gives these bottomfeeders a shoulder to cry on, pretending to be their friend, so that they come back to his show numerous times.
Every time he says "We're going to help you find the father", it sounds like a cash register chime.

My old friend's cousin was on the Springer show. I thought how proud he must be.

I don't feel shamed by it so much as it seems confusing/infuriating. I simply have no foundation to base a reaction on for something so utterly absurd. Thousands of people have already seen the show...

Strangers, friends, family--why is this something to be televised? Again, it reminds me of the type of entertainment that the Romans enjoyed speading throughout the Empire Period. Having a family member become involved kind of brings it home. Before I would normally have just ignored these kind of shows, but seeing someone you know on one...it really makes me angry. America doesn't equal the Empire, but sometimes...it's kinda the reason why much of theatre was completely wiped out for over 500 years until the rise of the Mystery Plays around the 1100's CE.

Granted, wilkos seems to actually want to help people. But, again, who actually gets better because of shows like this? Do they actually work? Didn't work for my cousin.

A girl I used to be friends with in high school was on Intervention for being an anorexic stripper.

Try having a wake-up call from a cousin. I'd never heard of it either. It's great. :p

My extended family is white trash. For example, during the course of my cousins' second birthday party most of the adults loaded up on beer (mostly Budweiser, of course) and played loud, curse-filled music. At a party for two-year-olds. Two-year-olds. It was nice talking to the drunk father.

That said, I am glad that I've never seen one of them on a daytime talk show... but I don't ever watch those programs so they may have appeared.

    Budweiser...ah man.

They could at least go for Guinness, New Castle, or Heineken.
