Yes, I am, in fact, about to send this letter to George Lucas in the mail. The real mail, with an envelope and a stamp.

I thought I would share it with you folks, and if anyone actually does write a real letter to GL, feel free to share it with us. Or just post "Dear George, send me money LOL".

    ------
    Dear Mr. Lucas:

This letter may never reach you; I can only imagine how much fan mail your office gets, particularly these days. But I had to take this time to write to you?it felt only proper.
I write this letter only hours after having seen Revenge of the Sith. But it?s not a letter to say how much I loved it (a lot), nor is it a letter about how important a part of my life Star Wars has been since childhood (again, a lot).
In January 1997 I saw A New Hope on the big screen. I can still point out the shot during the Battle of Yavin that changed my life, the shot that made me realize that I wanted to make movies.
    So I did.
By the time this letter reaches your office my senior thesis film will have premiered. A few weeks after that I will be graduating Northwestern University?s radio-television-film program, with numerous cast and crew credits on shorts and features and a few films of my own that I?m very proud of.
    Because of Star Wars.
My first major excursions into both live-action and animated moviemaking was through Star Wars fan films, which also led to my first film festival circuit experiences and my first award. In a funny way, I feel like Star Wars has been sort of holding my hand all the way through.
So now the circle is complete, and I go on my new adventure. Thank you, Mr. Lucas. Not just for the saga, or for the joy I had in watching it, but because of the young filmmaker it inspired to go change the galaxy.

May the Force be with you,
(sorry, I just had to say it),

    Adam Bertocci

*sniff*.......(a single tear runs dramatically down my left cheek)......(I start a single, slow, loud clap, until I am joined by a slew of enthusiastic applause joined with numerous shouts and yelps of joy.)

    Thanks for sharing Adam.

The man won't even release the OT on DVD for cripes sake!

*sniff*.......(a single tear runs dramatically down my left cheek)......(I start a single, slow, loud chant, until I am joined by a slew of angry chanting joined with numerous shouts and yelps for the OT to be released on DVD)

The only thing wrong I see with the Special Edition was Greedo shoots first. Other than that, I welcome it all.

I bet if you took a plane and flew it into a restricted airspace that you would have your letter, or at least portions of it, printed in every major newspaper the next day. Might get into a bit of trouble, but you gotta weigh out the pros and cons...

Aw, that's really sweet. :) I wrote a letter to him about a year ago, but it was about future films and how one becomes a concept artist for a film.... I was answered by his secretary, since he was out of the country working on ROTS.

that's good adam, i like it. it's short, direct, and too the point, a good piece of mail indeed.

i am wondering though, which fanfilms are the ones you made? and how long ago were they?

My first fan film is honestly not worth discussing, and it's not online any more.

I'm still fond of my second fan film, though: http://www.runleiarun.com
^ warning: may not make sense if you haven't seen the German experimental film "Run Lola Run"

As for George seeing the letter:
I figured there's a one-in-a-million shot he'll actually see it and read it, after all he is a busy man and he must get boatloads of fan mail even on his slowest days.
But I also felt that one-in-a-million chance was worth thirty-two cents and a few minutes of my time. I think he would enjoy it, the future of filmmaking (if I do end up a part of it) is important to GL, and he holds his own influences and inspirations close to his heart and would understand how I felt. Furthermore he said at Celebration III he wanted Star Wars to be something to inspire people to go do something out there in the real world, and I suppose making quirky romantic comedies counts. :p

You know, Adam, Lucas is very aware of this site, and I'm sure he drops in from time to time, and what better place to hang out then "SW Comm"? With the existence of this thread, you may have changed your 1 in a million shot insurmountably.

Gentleman, this is quite possibly history in the making.....With each keystroke we strike, we may be inadvertantly adding to the thread that inspired Mr. Lucas to pass the torch on to our good buddy Adam here to complete the saga of 7, 8, and 9 that we all know exists but fear we may never actually experience!!!.....OR...he may never read it, and we'll never see the last tril, we'll never know what happens after the balance of the force is obtained, we'll never know what they did with Vader's ashes, either way, I'm hungry and I'm gonna go make a sandwich.
