I'm interseted in getting an ipod after seeing my sister borrow her friend's. I am dumb when it comes to computers so here are my questions

1.Can an ipod use an AC adaptor, and how do you plug it in? I only saw one port and that would have to be for the headphones.

2.How exactly do you plug it into the computer? What cords do you need?

3.How long does the battery last before dying after so many charges?

4.Are there any good legal sites you can get free music off of?

    Help would be apreciated

Do you have thousands of songs you want to put on there? If not, an iPod isn't worth it. Go with one of the smaller mp3 players.

When you buy an iPod, the directions are included.

    1. Yes. There is a Universal Port at the bottom of the iPod for things like that.

    2. You use either a FireWire cable or a USB 2.0 cable, both of which plug into their respective ports.

    3. Depends. Can be anywhere from 10-17 hours.

    4. Hmm? not really. Sorry.

    1. It comes with an AC adapter.
    2. It comes with a USB cable.
    3. A year to a year and a half, I think. I've had mine for almost a year and it's still going strong.
    4. No.

You can use the port at the bottom to connect the iPod to virtually anything.

2.How exactly do you plug it into the computer? What cords do you need?

It plugs in your computer via the USB port. The cord you need comes with the iPod.

3.How long does the battery last before dying after so many charges?

Several months is what I've heard.

4.Are there any good legal sites you can get free music off of?

Well, iPods come with iTunes, which isn't free, but Napster charges $5 for unlimited songs. (I think)

    1. Have you seen an iPod in person? You plug it into the port on the bottom. It's a long, skinny hole. It plugs in to the dock (not included) through that bottom port.

    2. The iPod comes with the cords. You need not worry.

    3. I've had mine for a couple of months (June 16th) and I've experienced no battery loss (except that it does have a slightly shorter life when I use the light and have a higher volume.) The battery itself lasts about 8-12 hours. I used to listen to it before I fell asleep every night, and It lasted me maybe a week before I had to recharge.

    4. No.

EDIT: When you get your iPod, get the Protection Plan for iPod. It covers any accidents you might have, and any battery replacements (for when your battery finally sucks) which cost $100. The APP for iPod is $59, I think, and if you're a student, it's $47 or so.

EDIT2: By any accident, I mean anything that might go wrong with the iPod. Obviously if you smash it against the ground to see if it will break, that won't count. But I've heard of some people dunking their iPod in beer (twice) to see if it would get wet and they recieved a replacement when they sent theirs in (twice).

Unless you have a video. I use mine to watch movies, and it drains the battery considerably faster.

I have a question also. I recently bought a 5G vid one and was wondering whether it's safe to leave it charging overnight? Does it stop taking in power when it fills, 'cause I don't wanna wake up to find an exploded ipod.

I charge my iPod every 2-3 nights when I'm sleeping. I've experienced no problems at all. It's safe.

4.Are there any good legal sites you can get free music off of?

Why do people keep saying "no" to this question ? There are literally hundreds of dedicated mp3 sites where you can download legal music. http://www.mp3.com has a massive free archive, plenty of mainstream artists, along with great unsigned bands desperate to get their tracks heard. Amazon also have a massive library of free downloads, as does download.com

    Others include - http://www.iuma.com/ http://www.epitonic.com/ http://www.soundclick.com/

http://wiki.monkeyfilter.com/index.php?title=MP3_Blog_Listing has the biggest collection list of individual mainstream artists who publish free mp3 content on their own wesbites

and for the grand finale !!!! this link current links to over 1 million free and legal mp3 files.

    sheesh !

Yes, of course. It would not be sold if it was liable to explode simply from charging it up. Remember, charging up a battery isn't the same as filling a bucket with water--there are different principles at work. It won't burst or overflow.

I have an Ipod mini which has done well since i bought it, say, four months ago I think. Depending on the model you buy, it should come with a USB cable that connects your pod to the computer, etc. You'll have to purchase an AC adaptor/car charager seperate, otherwise just plug it in via usb to charge the battery.

Oh, and I suggest purchasing a protective case of some sort if you're going to be out and about with it alot.

You do know you can buy replacement batteries for your iPods, right? Google "iPod replacement battery" and you'll see there's dozens of store you can order a kit to do it yourself. I've replaced the batteries in 5 of my relatives iPods, as long as you can use a plastic screwdriver and read a few instructions it's actually really easy.

In regards to #4, there's a lot of free music out there. You just have to look. iTunes has free music every week, which is hit or miss with quality. Official artist pages usually have some free music, a track or two. Amazon.com has a free downloads section that's well worth looking through. Beyond that, Altavista and Dogpile can both search for audio, and if you know the artist or music title, you can sometimes find the song you're looking for, or a cover of it.

Best thing to do is to borrow cds from friends, rip them and give them back a couple minutes later.

Or you could give the artists what they deserve and just buy the music of iTunes.

There's a good reason why most (legally) free music is free. [face_sick]

I agree, even though I prefer free music.

I just got twenty bucks from my dad, and I plan to use it on iTunes money.
