Is it just me, or did anyone else have trouble picturing the Myrkr worldship? I was so very confused from the second they got there to the second they left. I never knew if they were outside, inside, in an auditorium, garden, city, or anything else. It almost seemed like a planet to me. Is that how they are supposed to be? Or do I just have a really bad imagination?

I was thinking that the area had a large dome or something over it. They did seem to have a lot of open air above them.

Was some of that on Myrkr itself..? Surely...

Well, I know it's huge, but it was confusing. The part with all the voxyn nests had me imagining an arena like in Gladiator, with them walking through the middle. I always imagined a dome overhead too though, so maybe there was. I'm re-reading it next week so I'll check.

I had thought Star by Star was poorly written. I wasn't sure when they got to Mykry if they landed on the planet or what, and i later found out from these boards that it was actualy the world ship they landed on. like i said, extremely vague, and not very well written.

i got the image of like a decimated world, there was no life anywhere. and i pictured a lot of purple for some reason. purples and greens. i guess my image of the worldship at Mykryr resembles like Cam Kennedy's comic art for Dark Empire.

Yea, for some reason, I pictured everything purple also. Haha. I didn't think it was poorly written, I very much enjoyed it, I was just confused during the strike team scenes.

I finished the book thinking the worldship was Myrkr itself.

Well YoungJedi, you shouldn't have been confused if it was well written. The strike team scenes WERE very confusing.

I also had trouble picturing the Myrkr Worldship, but then again I have trouble picturing a lot of things in Star Wars. I mean I saw a picture of the Sun Crusher and it is nothing like I imagined.

I had trouble picturing parts on the world ship. Well, actually i pictured it but it was prolly wrong. Because up until now i DID think the voxyn nest was under open air and Jacne was on some cliff side or something. Ver confusing.....

I had no trouble reading the novel. I thought it was very well-written, and Star by Star is actually one of my favorite SW novels. :)

I thought they were on Myrkr too, until I read it a second time.

Well, I knew it was on the worldship, but it was just hard picturing the inside. I always imagined the roof of it being hundreds of feet up, and I'm still not sure how tall it is. I also imagine Jacen looking down from like a precipace to the voxyn nests. And the city in it I pretty much pictured like the bio-domes in Balance Point, just Vong-ized.

Excellence swoops in to the rescue!

Having just finished reading SBS a few hours ago, I can say there was no confusion with the location of Jedi kids on the Worldship Baanu Raas. After all, it was quite clearly said they landed the Exquisite Death on the thing's surface.

Also note the worldship was the largest to enter the galaxy---120,000km long---the same size as the Death Star I. In other words, Myrkr had another moon around it.

Further evidence to reassure readers where the kids were came in the form of sporadic mentions that the emerald sphere of Myrkr rotated into view every now and then.

Finally, toward the end of the book, it very clearly stated the commando team went, quote: "deeper into the worldship", after the cloning grashal was destroyed and the hunt for the voxyn lady, Queen Kiki III, began.

So therefore, where was the confusion?

It wasn't really confusion as you're putting it though. I knew they were above Myrkr, I knew the worldship was huge, I was just having trouble picturing their surroundings.

Agreed. When I finished reading that was one of the first things I thought of. Yes, it was all organic and swampy at times, even with a transplanted/recreated infidel city, but description was extremely light.

Well, why cut the fox's tail halfway---it was practically non-existent. The last scenes when Jacen slew the voxyn lady gave me no mental picture as to what the surroundings were like.

The Myrkr Jedi strike mission was extremely confusing. One moment they're in space suits on the surface, then they're in a forest, then a city, then a huge arena...

All this while on a giant ship in space. If it wasn't for the exciting events happening in the story, I probably would have considered this one of the worst written books ever (In describing the setting, not the story - which was excellent.)

I had no trouble what so ever picturing what was going on. Basically, they landed on the outside of the worldship at what felt like a landing field. But then they moved inside the worldship and it, for the most part, had been redesigned and transformed into a world they were more familar with. This is because worldship had become the training ground for the voxyn. They had to be able to work in such enviroments. Most of the action for the Jedi mission takes place on the inside of the worldship.

I realized that, I just had a hard time picturing the inside. It seemed vast, which I'm sure it was, but it was also hard to imagine details.

YoungJedi11, think about it this way. The Worldship is like the Death Star's appearance on the outside, except it has a more stretched oval shape, and is made out of yorik coral. And just like the Death Star, it has tower protruding from it's surface.

Now remember is Star By Star that it said the cloning facility was in a tower. Or it said the strike team entered the tower which held the cloning facility. So just imagine that one of those towers on the Death Star is now made out of yorik coral and is the cloning facility. cna you picture that? okay.

now, Denning did write that the strike was continually moving deeper into the worldship, and in circles somewhat. imagine this: the voxyn colony is at the heart of the worldship. the strike are on one side of it, at the slave city. remember that part? remember how they enter the voxyn tunnels? okay, so they have to cross the voxyn colony to get to the cloning facility. on the way, they pass the religious arena where battles where held duing the long, inter-galactic space voyage.

you with me so far? so when the enter the cloning facility, there's that fight where Anakin dies. then the rest of the Jedi pull down a wall behind them and escape the Vong hunting them for a while. they make their way to the uh, Queen's Lair, as I guess you could call it, which is near the surface of the worldship, cuz it has dome and the strike team can see space outside.

so Jacen chases the voxyn queen, and Denning describes him as passing cells. think about yorik coral cells (not the ones we find in all organic things, but cavern type cells). then there are precipes, such as you said before, and ridges. can you picture all of that?

Although I knew they were on the Worldship, I did keep reading parts and wondering if I missed something and they had gone to Mykyr. Especially when they fought in a city.

But dont want to read it again :)

The forest part was what really confused me initially. It never occurred to me that the Vong would put a natural environment on the surface of their worldships.

What the?! This is old! :)

Actually the forest part was one of the only places I actually could picture (though I'm sure the authors imagined it different). My biggest trouble I think was the slave city, or the queen's hive. Those were just insane. Oh, I also had a lot of trouble with the landing and first entry too...I still don't get that one.
