Why do you think the council is almost empty while supposedly most of the named Jedi high rankers (e.g. the one with the tall forehead etc.) survived the battle?

There are a couple of different explanations. One is that they removed the chairs of all of the council members that died in the Arena battle, and spread the rest of the chairs out evenly. The other possibility is that it isn't the Jedi Council Chamber. If you notice, the floor design in that room is the same as in the Council Chamber, but it is also the same as the floor design in the room where Yoda trains the Younglings. According to the AOTC novel on page 352 "Obi-Wan and Mace Windu stood staring out the window of Master Yoda's apartment". However, the screenplay that is included in the Art of Attack of the Clones book, on page 220, scene 176, it clearly says that it takes place in the Jedi Council Chamber.

Another explanation is that it's just an informal gathering, which explains why most of the chairs aren't there, and why all of the surviving Jedi Council members aren't there.

Dead Jedi master's chairs have to be removed, and there are probably lots of injured jedi who need the chairs for something.

Or maybe they were taken by the monty python people for the spanish inquisition sketch. Who knows.

    Theories:

    a) That wasn't the Council chamber, but looked alot like it. Fat chance . . .

    b) Yoda wanted to speak with the Jedi alone. Makes a bit more sense to me.

Its not a session of the council so the Jedi that are usually there are off doing other things. Its just Yoda's clubhouse when the council isn't in session I guess

People agree, Yoda runs a night club out of the Jedi Temple

I'll agree to that ForceHeretic. But what's with all this "People Agree" after all your posts lol ;)

I dont understand the "that it's just an informal gathering, which explains why most of the chairs aren't there" theory. Would they remove the chairs when council is not in session? I think it's either Yoda's apt or another council type room.

Its empty to give the effect of the tragedy that has befallen the Jedi.
Also its empty to mark the idea that you're not sure who survived ad who didnt. It seems all ut Yoda an Mace from the Council were killed but its not explicitly stated.

I'm sure it wasn't an official session of the Council. Or maybe it was the bathroom break.

Maybe they were reearranging because they had to add new people to the council because some of them died...

The screenplay says Plo Koon was also there in that room, just injured. So, I imagine there are other chairs in the room, they're just "off-camera".

Besides, the Jedi do have TK- it's not like "pulling up a chair" would be all that inconvienient a task for them.

The guy with the tall forehead and the other guy with the dreadlocks (the one who force-pushed 3PO in the arena) survived. The other members, we have no idea what happened to them, except Coleman, who died.

Kit Fisto isn't a part of the Jedi Council. :)

BTW, didn't Lucas say that the lack of chairs is to symbolize the dead Jedi in the audio commentary?

So wait, each meeting is BYOC meeting (bring your own chair)?
Just because they're not there doesn't mean their chairs wouldn't be.

Mace Windu's chair wasn't there, but he was talking with Obi-Wan and Yoda.

I geuss it's just a bit of foreshadowing. All the chairs but Yoda's are gone (all the Jedi but Yoda (and Obi-Wan, but he isn't on the Council) will die).

The guy with the insane dreads is the man, his smile is cool as well

And Atomik I really just say People agree _____ because i think its funny, and so people will ask me why I put it there. Kinda like a friend of mine in 9th grade, everyday he wore women's driving gloves to school, just so people would ask him why (and no he's not gay, but he was asked that every other day)

People agree, I have confused them all with saying people agree all the time

The only visible chair is Yoda's. Mace, Ki-Adi, and Plo's chairs are all missing. Mace is alive and the other 2 most agree are still alive too. I think the council wasn't in session but that some council members had to die. The missing chairs are supposed to show that some are dead but which are is unknown.

Has anyone considered the fact that the chairs might sink into the floor??? not sure what the purpose would be though lol
