Need help with some information on Jedi Temple/ Jedi

Hi Can someone tell me how the Jedi promotion system work? I mean when does a padawan get knighted and knights become a master?

Padawan->Knight->Master. Is this correct?

Plus what do they teach in the Jedi temple and who teaches them?

O last question how does one use force lightning? Can a ordinary jedi use it?

How does force absorb work?

Where do the Jedi sleep?

Is it Jedi or Jedis?

1. Yes, P->K->M is correct.

2. Kids get trained in classes until they are accepted by a Master and trained 1 on 1. They still do some class work and participate in tournaments, but most of the time they do missions.

3. Force Lightning: An ordinary Jedi can use it, but they don't. It is considered a dark art and the vast majority of the time it is fuled by anger and hatred.

4. Force Absorb: they absorb energy.

5. Sleep? It is a mixture between rooms and dorms. Jedi, for the most part, don't get personalizable rooms because they aren't around enough.

6. It is almost always Jedi. You can write Jedis if it is a ignorant character speaking.

- Yes.

- They teach all Jedi/Force skills, plus they would provide a complete education from pre-school to college-level for the padawans. Jedi knights and masters teach. Plus, since it is the Star Wars universe they may use droid instructors as well, though not for anything to do with the Force.

- It is implied that only Sith use Force lightning. Jedi use lightsabers. Theoretically, Jedi could use Force lightning, but they don't (at least pre-TPM).

- The Force is based on Movie Magic. How does it work? It just does. Presumably it is beyond any technological analysis or attempt to harness it in the GFFA or someone would have done it.

- The Jedi live in the Jedi Temple. It is implied in the movies that they have very simple, monkish accommodations. Some Jedi, like Dooku (before he left the order) live outside the Temple on other worlds.

- The plural of Jedi is Jedi.

 

I'd say use your imagination if you want. I've seen used: "dorm room" - small individual rooms - and for master/padawan teams, a small apartment (common room, kitchenette, bathroom & 2 small bedrooms) - some with balconies! I have the impression most of us fanficcers use the small apartment ourselves.

It's pretty much agreed younglings are group trained and educated until chosen by a knight or master, at which time they become padawans. (Some say while a youngling can be apprenticed at various ages, they're usually called apprentices until age 13 when they take the rank of padawan). They continue class studies but also one on one studying with the master.

A padawan who passes the trials becomes a knight. A knight who some say has passed an additinal trial OR proved worthy of mastership attain the rank of master.

A "master" to a padawan is called "Master" as a courtesy title, but may not have advanced to the rank of Master.

One Jedi, two - it's Jedi. Like deer. Singular and plural are the same.
