Did you know Netflix has games? Neither did I until today. The games are included with your Netflix membership. As of this post, there are more than 40 exclusive mobile games. There are no ads, fees, or in-app purchases either. How do I play? First, you need an active Netflix subscription (and an internet connection to download and install the game) Second, you need a compatible device: Android phone or tablet running Android 8.0 or later iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS/iPadOS 15 or later Lastly, you need enough storage space on said device to be able to store the game Games I'm looking forward to playing: 1) TMNT: Shredder's Revenge I checked and you can create a public/private party so if you have friends that also have Netflix, then you can all play together. 2) Twelve Minutes - interactive thriller that features the voices of James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe 3) Heads Up! - fun charades game with friends Other notes: I logged into Netflix on my Windows laptop and I didn't see an option to play the games so right now it seems to only be compatible with Android and iOS devices. Ideally, if I can hook a PS5 controller to my iPad and then cast my iPad to my TV, that would be really cool. Since this is very new to me, I plan on trying this later. Will this work if I download Netflix on my gaming system? Again, I'm guessing that's not supported yet, but hopefully that'll change in the future. Reference: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/121442
I've just never been keen on playing the standard console games on my phone. You'd think that considering you can download the Netflix (movies) app on your primary console, they'd have some sort of way to include games on there as well.
Yeah, I've got the Netflix app on my gaming console and on my smart TV and you can't access the games on either of them which seems like a real missed opportunity. I wonder if the issue is with the consoles not wanting Netflix to cut in on games that people would otherwise buy and play as a console title? The one game they have that I really have been wanting to play is Sam Barlow's new one, Immortality. But I'm not playing that on a mobile device. Maybe they'll eventually get functionality so you can play on your PC or your TV. I've given up trying to figure out exactly why Netflix makes the decisions they do, however, so it seems just as likely that they won't ever offer that.
Thinking like a programmer, it seems these games were developed and redesigned specifically for mobile use with touch screen controls. I've only tired TMNT so far and there wasn't an option to switch to a Bluetooth controller like my PS5 that I was successfully able to connect to my iPhone. On Tribute Games Twitter page, it says there's controller support, so maybe it's there, but I wasn't able to find it in game. Or maybe I need a different Bluetooth controller? IDK. I went to the app store to search and there are maybe a dozen games that claim to have controller functionality so it exists, but I'm sure it might be an after thought for developers compared to touch screen when you're on your mobile device. I asked on Twitter for help, but I doubt I'll get any there. So I went to Tribute Games' website and found the "contact us" link which took me to Dotemu's website. I submitted my question and hopefully they'll be able to help. @vin, since you knew about this, what game(s) are you currently enjoying via Netflix? Any recommendations? Edit: Controller wise, I saw a review where the reviewer used both a Razer Kishi V2 and the Backbone One. So I'm wondering if that's the controller support they're talking about, the ones that have to be plugged into the iPhone's port to work.
I'm just no good with touch-screen controls on games initially designed for consoles. Several years ago I had bought Final Fantasy VI for my Android phone. I'd never played the game, so I thought I might as well give the mobile version a try. Just a mistake. I can't adapt to using those on-screen controls while paying attention to the same screen; too many things going on at once. I barely got through about the first hour or so of the game and just quit.
