I purchased this song from iTunes (about 5 minutes after it was released it went straight to #1 in the top 100) and I can't get enough of it.

If you haven't heard the new single yet, Speed of Sound sounds alot like a hidden track from A Rush of Blood To the Head, a b-side that never made it to the album. However, it's got a different lyrical feel IMO-more abstract than Clocks or Yellow.

Chris Martin lets his falsetto go in the chorus with a nice piano intro similar to Clocks, and it sounds awesome, IMO.

oh! it's beautiful!! i love it.
i am looking forward to the LP!

though i agree that it sounds like it could have been a "bonus track" on RoBTtH..

I like it too, but I thought it was U2 when I first heard it... it sounds very U2-ish in my opinion.

When does their new soundtrack come out?

So, was that just a massive slip or intentional?

Yeah, it's a great song. I put it onto the iPod as soon as it was released.

I can see some similarities with Clocks, mainly due to the opening piano sequence, though I do think that Speed of Sound outshines Clocks lyrically.

Martin's haunting voice suits the song perfectly, especially the chorus.

The album X + Y is released early June. I've heard a couple of other songs on the album and have to say that it looks promising.

Hmm. I think it's just okay. Nothing particularly special. Maybe it'll grow on me with time.

It sounds quite a bit like Clocks. Not a bad thing, because I love that song. I'll download it tonight, it's pretty good.

Count me in as a fan of this song (and band, for that matter).

    The chorus is beautiful.

I've only heard it once, and it didn't do much for me.

I love this track but I'm afraid it will die a common death among singles nowadays-it'll be played too much and everyone will be sick of it.

I quite like it as well. The lyrics in particular are simple but effective...

    Good stuff.

My wife absolutely loves this band. Most of the time I think they are a U2 rip-off and the rest of the time I think there a Dave Matthews rip-off, which is scary because neither of those bands deserves the tremendous accolades that theu get, IMO.

They have a very different sound than that of U2 or DMB

I think they are influenced by both of those bands.

    They remind me of Radiohead.

Heard the song twice and I like it alot.

    It can't touch "Yellow" though.

Agreed. I'd say Coldplay sound more like Bends-era Radiohead than U2 or Dave Matthews.

Trouble is another one of their good ones. My personal Favorites:

Clocks, Don't Panic, Trouble, Speed of Sound, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Daylight, Whisper, Spies, High Speed and Yellow.
