Speculation New lightsaber gimmicks?

So, just like The Phantom Menace, the Force Awakens had a new lightsaber gimmick in it.

Do you think there will be any kind of new lightsaber in The Last Jedi or Episode IX? Would you like to see a new kind of lightsaber? Perhaps a color that hasn't been seen in the movies before?

Could we see our first canon yellow lightsaber in this new trilogy? What about one of those stupid spinning helicopter lightsabers from Rebels? Speaking of Rebels, do you think the Darksaber could ever make an appearance? Perhaps we'll get a character who consistently uses two lightsabers at once, as opposed to Anakin's brief usage of it in Attack of the Clones?

What are your thoughts on new lightsabers in the new trilogy? What would you like to see? What do you think we'll see?

 

I really want to see more customizable lightsabers. Between battles imagine changing the bottom of the lightsaber from standard to curved. I still don't think we have seen that in anything. Future lightsaber gimmicks are guaranteed at this point. I kind of want to see a lightwhip in live-action.

 

I certainly hope not! Kylo's saber was bad enough, imo.

Wait...darksaber?

Oh yes, I would most certainly like to see that on screen. But not in the form shown on rebels...more like what Starkiller had.

I hated Ben's lightsaber, and I hope they avoid other stupid designs. However, I really liked the guard saber from TFU. It would be so cool to see guard sabers on screen.

 

I didn't see any lightsaber gimmicks in TPM or TFA.

I wouldn't mind seeing different colors, but please, no more gimmicks. And please, please, don't put in any of those stupid spinning lightsabers from the cartoon. That would just cross the line into pathetic.

 

I wanna see Snoke fight with lightsaber blades coming out of his knees and elbows!

Lol, yeah. Yeah, they do. I just have no idea why that would be a thing.

Actually, I think laser throwing knives could be really cool if implemented well.

...or maybe laser shuriken would work better.

 

I think one of the most interesting gimmicks would be to have a good guy use a red lightsaber while doing good deeds, and bad guys who use traditionally "Jedi" saber colors. Symbolizing that it's not the form of weapon but what the wielder does with it that defines one's allegiance.

 

The latest Ahsoka novel pretty much kicks that want out the window.

 

Me too. One of the worst ideas they've come up with in the last few years is this crystal color matching your type BS.

 

I disagree. I think the explanation they gave for it in Ahsoka was pretty cool, and definitely fit with the lore.

 

To come up with new colors or styles, they'd have to inject more Jedi or Force users into the story. Basically, right now, the only lightsabers in existence are Kylo Ren's, Luke's, and Anakin's. And as far as different hilt styles, Darth Dnej, Count Dooku's saber had a curved hilt, and in TCW, Ventress also had curved hilts for her sabers.

 

I'm still holding out hope that we will ultimately see Rey with a double-bladed lightsaber. I loved Darth Maul's in TPM, but something about seeing a blue-or even green one makes me so (hopefully) excited!

Other than that though, I'm also of the camp that Kylo Ren's crossguard saber is enough for me for this trilogy.



Now what I REALLY want to see is Luke bust out his ROTJ green lightsaber-or even better-Leia ignite a lightsaber of her own!!!!!!!
