Okay, so i finally finished my tutorial after slaving for 2 days. Here it is!! It is in a word document, since it is intended for the windows version of GIMP.

And just because you here the word GIMP, don't just ignore it and say "GIMP sucks" This is really easy and produces great results. And you can take my ideas and play with them to get your own look.

Note: This can be used for lightsabers, energy weapons, and probably force lightning.

    Clicky

Show me your results and tell me if you liked it.

EDIT: You can also do contact flashes by going to the frame where the sabers come into contact, and going to Filters>lighting effects>Supernova and tweak it to your liking and place it ontop of the sabers.

If it's just text, why don't you post it here instead of making people go through file transfer services to get a document?

Also, you should post some pics.

If you can post it in text, it'll be easier for people to look at it. A lot of people don't have Office.

Yeah, man - put the tutorial on here. My computer, oddly enough, doesn't like to open word documents.

It would be helpful also to post some examples of your results here so people will know if they'd like to download it or not?

Haha! Without transfer modes, even your plugin will only give crappy results, I'm afraid. Try using transfer modes. It helps, really. ;)

That lightsaber plugin doesn't look good, and you have to do it and wait fo it to finish every frame, but in my method all you do frame by frame is draw the line. Then you just do some filters and duplicate some layers and you can even adjust your settings of blurs and layers to get better results.

It DOES have several pictures on the tutorials, and that's why i put it in a document. Well i guess i can post it in just text, but you won't be able to see the pictures. You really don't need them, but they help. Here just a sec.

Oh yeah, and here is what i did using this method. The quality of the video is due to a crappy camera, not GIMP. I also did the greenscreening.

    click

EDIT:And thanks to Eamon here is the tutorial in PDF format.

After reading all these GIMP tutorials, I'll have to say I prefer Draconis's tutorial. I think his glows best replicate After Effects and other professianal programs.

I take it this can be used in videos, then? Frame-by-frame, I mean. The tutorials that dont explicitly say that this method can be used for video always make me suspicious.

Okay, WTF, i posted this tutorial as my method for doing videos, and all that everybody deos is either ask if this is for videos, or say draconis's is better, even though it is not meant for videos. Nobody has shown a single sign of appreciation towards all the work i put into this, or any of the videos i have made.

Thanks for hijacking my thread draconis.
