Hopefully this is the right place for this sort of thread because I still feel new to this forum so I am unsure where to put certain things. But and I just learned of the vibroblade that is a non lightsaber sword in the SWU but what are some others? And didn't early jedi use katana's to fight? So wouldn't that make katanas apart of the SWU?

Well Jedi are partly inspired by samurai, so in a matter of speaking, yes, but there is no Japan in a galaxy far, far away.

Actually the closest thing to what you're looking for can be seen in the Clone Wars episode "Bounty" (season 4, episode 20), wherein a team of bounty hunters takes on a group of marauders called the Kage Warriors who are basically Star Wars ninjas. They use electrified ninja swords, but of course a lightsaber makes short work of them.

Well I also started my looking and stumbled upon this article of force imbued blades that were basically katanas blades as they say imbued with the force and kind of gave a certain glow to them http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force-imbued_blade

Now that I find a little bit ridiculous. The idea of a Ashla/Bogan war not so much, but a "Jedi Katana"? That just sounds too earthbound for my Star Wars, force imbued or not.

All great orders have to start somewhere before they eventually evolve into what we would know it as. I mean the era of time when that war is shown is around the time of the Dawn of the Jedi comic book.

You might want to check out the comic series Dawn of the Jedi. It depicts the order that predated the Jedi, and they use what are basically katanas before reverse-engineering early lightsabers from Rakatan technology.

Katanas also exist in certain areas of the galaxy in modern times, such as on Telerath. The comic Dark Times: Blue Harvest is a loose adaptation of Yojimbo, an old Kurosawa samurai film, and as such contains extensive use of katanas.
