Every system has a few titles that are either quickly forgotten or just never get the attention in the spotlight of other titles, yet they are still pretty good, or at the very least, decent, titles. They just slip through the cracks.

The NES had titles like Rescue Rangers, Fester's Quest, A Boy & His Blob, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Bionic Commando, etc.

The SNES had Illusion of Gaia, Uniracers, Bubsy, The Lost Vikings, that one Bugs Bunny game, that one hockey game with the fightmode, etc.

N64 had Blast Corps, Jet force Jemini, Extreme-G, etc.

Now we're at the current generation as it's starting to come to a close, and I'm curious what other titles are out there that might be worth a second look.

GCN wise, Eternal Darkness, Ikaruga and Pacman VS comes to mind- and though I haven't played it, I've heard very good things about Beyond Good & Evil. Also, though movie games tend to suck, I've found the Spiderman 2 game to be pretty fun as it definitely captures the feel of webslinging.

What else has been out there that you folks think are noteworthy titles that haven't hit the GTA/Halo/Zelda spotlight?

Definitely Star Ocean 2: The Second Story for the PS1.

It is an awesome RPG and boasts very excellent graphics for its time period. The storyline is fun and imaginative, the characters engaging, and the battle system was very easy to get into.

I heard of some lame game called Gallatical Battlegrounds or something.

It never stood up against ForceCommander though!

I remember all those games, 2ndQuest. I remember all those flat-scrolling half-dimensional NES games that entertained us for thousands of hours in our molting years, and the place in my heart that no modern 3D game can hold.

$250 for a 1987 NES console was a Super Star Destroyer in those days, a sithing fortune. We still had 2c coins and things that could be bought for that! Baby-simple games like Pinball was $80. When I consider how high our game pile was, bought on a mother's single wage and her sons' pinning looks, I try not to cry.

I wouldn't sell Bionic Commando, bought to cheer a boy and his new bracers up, for all the gold in the world.

I never spent over $50 for a new game- NES or otherwise (unless the game was packaged in with some new accessory like a rumble pack).

I spent so many hours playing Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. We would build a huge park and then use cheats to take away all the fences. Seems like no one else has that game.

..hmm.. I've always felt the "Dynasty Warriors" series deserved to get more attention then it did..

I have trouble coming up with a 2P co-op game that's more addictive..

However, it may have FINALLY gotten it's due with the release of "Dynasty Warriors 5".. I was astounded to find out, as i went to pick up my copy on launch day, that the game had actually sold out..

For previous releases, i'd normally have to have the thing special-ordered!

The "Advance Wars" series for the GBA doesn't get nearly enough credit.

Do the "Medal of Honor" games still get some recognition? I've barely heard a word about this latest one to hit the consoles, but when that series first started, there was nothing like it.

The "Silent Hill" series deserves alot of credit, as does the "Fatal Frame" series.. Easily the two best survival Horror series' going.

One of my favorite games of the NES era was Crystalis. It was a Action-RPG, sort of like Secret of Mana, but it was great. I could play that game over and over. Duck Tales was also pretty cool.

There's Shadowrun and ComixZone on the Sega Genesis. Actually they were pretty fun games to play.

Beyond Good and Evil was great. And I think Burnout is underappreciated. Everyone's hyped about NFS etc but for extreme speed and wicked arcade action, Burnout owns.

$80 for a new game here is cheap, they usually go for around $100 (though I wasn't buying games when the NES was about).

Other NES titles I would add are To The Earth, Startropics, and Kickle Cubicle.

an nes game i loved was captain skyhawk. that game was so addictive. and i loved festers quest, just couldn't ever get past the first boss. . .

on the saturn i think sonic r was just about the most fun racing game that i have ever played. especially if you got two robotnik's in multiplayer and just sat there and shot the heck out of each other. that was great.

a majorly underappreciated game was ristar, off of the genesis. that game was da bomb. and very unique at that.

    theres my two cents

I'm not sure how "lesser known" Beyond Good and Evil was. It certainly was marketed pretty heavily. I saw VG magazine ads for it forever before it came out. It certainly was "lesser bought" though. It was a "bargin bin buy" only a few months after it came out. It was the best bargin buy ever though, or close to it.
