After Obiwan watches the holo from the Jedi Temple where the Sidious says "Go and spread peace into the Empire....blah..blah..etc..etc" he pleads for Yoda to send him to kill the "emperor." This just seems wierd that he calls Palps the Emperor so quickly. Ok...common sense would say they have a news holo or something saying what was going on....but I got the impression that Palps was giving the Senate speech while Obi and Yoda are at the temple. Not a big deal, but its a loose string i think. I mean if I catch the end of a news clip where Bush says he's raising taxes in this new empire I don't run and tell everyone the change "Emperor Bush" is making. I'm sure I might have a question or two.

This is one of my gripes about the movie and i've mentioned it on here many times. Unfortunately i'm usually shouted down by people saying it was "obvious" . . . i fet that scene was too rushed.

You know that's actually a good question I really can't think of the answer. Maybe on Bail's ship they found out that Palpatine had taken over and called himself the Emperor somehow, but then that doesn't seem likely because he doesn't declare the Empire until Bail is at the senate meeting. I really don't how to explain it, maybe it truly is a mistake.

So what's so weird or bad about it? Every leader of an Empire is called an Emperor. It doesnt matter if he called him by that name too fast.

it's not a mistake, it's to let the Audience know that Palpatine is the Emperor , it is a tie in to the OT. seems the movies are too confusing for some, maybe Lucas felt he had to throw them a bone.

Why would someone be happy to find a problem with something that they spend all day talking about?

Obi-Wan sees them refer to the Empire and assumes the guy in the hologram is the Emperor and Darth Sidious. Big deal. It's not terribly realistic, but Star Wars is not terribly realistic.

    I admit it!

    Shouldnt have happened.

They should have simply said Palpatine (or Chancellor).

It would have made more sense the way you explain it, but it still works in terms of this kind of story.

It doesnt matter if Obi Wan called the Emperor Palpatine or Chancellor because he already adressed the senate of a new leadership and government. It would be weird if he still said "palpatine" or "chancellor" And yeah i know Obi Wan calls him "chancellor Palpatine" in mustafar when dueling with Anakin. But who cares?

I wasn't refering to you. Sorry about the misunderstanding. You didn't act like you were happy about finding the plot hole, you just discussed the issue. It's cool.

This is pretty much the worst movie ever made!

Yeah but when did they have time to "watch the news", they were breaking into the jedi temple when that happened so how did they know?

Hey...I was just kidding...I used your quote as a chance to quote Napoleon Dynamite. I love that movie. I know what at least one person logged onto this board at any given moment is a real life Napoleon.

they didn't watch the senate/republic news. Its simply common sense man. This should explain it easier: Palpatine is the leader of the Republic right? Which makes him Chancellor. But when he was deformed by his own lightning he adressed the senate and said the jedi are considered traitors. He wanted to start again "in order to ensure the security and continuing stability...The Republic will be reorganized into the First..Galactic..Empire..for a safe and secure society." Since He is the leader of the Republic-Chancellor and he changed the Republic into the Empire-Emperor it's common sense.

It actually doesn't seem like a plot hole to me. In the hologram, Palpatine says, "Go bring peace to the Empire." So Obi-Wan was just deducing that the hooded evil-looking guy was the Emperor.

    1. This is a fascist empire, so there might be TVs on every single wall on the Jedi temple showing P-SPAN (The Palpatine Network) 24/7.

    2. In the random hologram of Anakin kneeling before Palpatine, Palpy could have updated his wardrobe to reflect his new status by putting a neon sign flashing "DA EMPEROR" on his back.

This makes sense then and also explains why Obi calls him the Chancellor again later on. Actually....one word with the right enunciation spoken by Obiwan after watching the holo would fix this. "EM-pire????"

Maybe he had force nunchucks in his locker with "DA EMPEROR" too. ;)

Listen, when Sidious addresses the Senate and "reorganizes it into his NEW EMPIRE" Yoda and Obi-Wan are simultaneously invading the temple.

Basically the republic is "renamed" while Obi-Wan and Yoda are in the temple fighting off clones and going over surveilance tapes, so since it's all HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME....HOW DID THEY KNOW?o_O

They just either saw the recordings made when the Emperor is saying to anakin "you have done well my new apprentice now lord vader go and bring peace to the empire." Since Palpatine was behind everything he wanted to excell into being the emperor. Or in an easier way " THE FORCE TOLD THEM" its not so difficult you know... And I don't want to start a debate war (WW3). Happy Now? Who cares about "how do they know" its only a movie!
