Does anyone know where I can get hold of a decent quality fake beard, ala Ewan McGregor in Clones?

Failing that, does anyone have any tips on how to make one myself?

    Thanks.

Hmmm, didn't see that one coming a mile off.....

All the false beards on the net are really poor quality and the wrong style. If anyone knows a place that sells realistic looking false beards, please let me know.

I think your best bet would be to hit a costume shop and get a first-hand look at their inventory. Most good shops will carry an array of facial appliances, from the very low end to the very realistic. I would almost never suggest buying a false beard until you have seen it in person. Some costume shops will also refer clients to high end suppliers of such items if they don't regularly stock them.

No fake beard will stand up to a real one, but you could try saving some from your next haircut. Then carefully glue on the goatee after growing some stubble. Should look close enough... But seriously, you should just take a month to grow the goat yourself then a week for the rest of the face.

Yeah, I agree with Master_Byrd, just use some spirit gum to glue on hair.

Since it doesn't look like you are unable to grow facial hair this is probably you best (and cheapest) option.

Yeah, no offense but, you're old enough to be able to grow a beard... Now it you were 15 or something, I'd understand the challenge, but once you hit 21-22... the 5 o'clock shadow becomes that much thicker.

To be honest, the beard isn't for me. I'm going to be playing a clean cut Anakin. The beard is for a friend who is slightly unwilling to grow a full beard (due to the nature of his job - lots of contact with public etc, has to look clean and polished, you know the type).

Ok, new idea. Rather than sticking the hair directly to the face, is there a thin material that I could glue the beard onto and then glue it to his face? This would be a lot easier than having to create a new beaed evertime for multiple day shoots.

I seem to remember a type of material that becomes almost transparent when it becomes wet (with glue in this case). Any ideas on what type of material would be best?

I was Silent Bob for Halloween a few years ago, and here's what I learned about fake beards.

Premade ones are expensive. And if you want a full beard, you'll have to buy one face piece and a mustache. You're looking at like $40 or so. Go to a good costume shop in your area, they'll have something for you. You use spirit gum to glue it on.

Your other option is buying crepe hair, which you can get at costume shops as well. It comes in braids, is very cheap, and easy to use. You unbraid it, iron it to straighten it, cut pieces MUCH longer than you need, then glue them with spirit gum or liquid latex in rows starting at the bottom and working up. Just lay the hair into the adhesive. When it's done and dry, trim it like a regular beard. If you want to make your own reusable beard, paint some liquid latex on the person's face, let it dry, then put on more latex to glue the hair on, etc. Then when you're done, peal it off VERY CAREFULLY. Some talcum powder will keep it from sticking to itself. But that's a lot of hassle.

    So yeah, there ya go.
