I haven't read any of the Obsession comic series, but from what I see on Wikipedia, Obi-Wan risks life and limb on a half-crazed quest to redeem Ventress, one of his arch-enemies. Now if he's willing to try saving Ventress from the dark side, shouldn't he have had even more reason to try saving his own apprentice later on?

How can you mix the movies with the EU? There's way too much EU out there for most of us to keep up. It's like trying to know the whole Smithsonian.

Obi-Wan was trying to turn Anakin back but, he had no opening to turn Vader back. I view what is often seen as a lecture in the fight as being Obi-Wan probing to see if Anakin's not completely lost. He however at this point in time, is.

Like Master_Starwalker said, I believe that Obi-Wan was attempting to probe Darth Vader for any trace of Anakin no matter how small. Some of the things Obi-Wan should have said during their duel were said after Darth Vader had been defeated and were then pretty much useless.

Asajj didn't do half the stuff Anakin did.

This should probably go in the EU Literature Forums. Movie fans might not know what an Asajj Ventress is.

Eh, we can leave it here. Enough people probably know of the story.

As it's been said, the Obsession comics are interesting supplemental material to the films, but they are not the films themselves and should be taken with a grain of salt.

But if you want to debate as if they were film canon then I think perhaps Obi-Wan is just too shocked and hurt. He's too close to the situation, feels it too personally, which he isn't used to. With Asajj he could be more detached. It seems to be almost the opposite reaction you'd expect, but I can see where Obi-Wan is coming from. It would almost be too painful for him to try and fail. But he also knows Anakin and is unstoppable zeal for that which he believes in. Palpatine is too dangerous to live and Anakin, if he has truly turned Sith, is also too dangerous to live. Obi-Wan may be conflicted, but he is a Jedi first and foremost. He'll do what needs to be done to stop the Chosen One from falling into dark hands, even if it means killing his former best friend. Asajj wasn't as much of a risk as Anakin.

When Obi-wan tried to bring Ventress back, he was doing so because he felt that there was enough of a spark to bring her back. He became obsessed in his efforts to do so and as far as he knows, he failed. When he went to fight Anakin, he was well aware of his apparent failure with Ventress and so he took a different tact. But he still tried. He tried to get Anakin to see that he was being decieved by Palpatine. Unfortunately, it wasn't working at all. He couldn't feel that spark before, during and after their fight. Thus he gave up.
