ST Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) in Episode IX

Only speculation based on sources in LA cited in this article but JJ does have a positive relationship with Ewan and had made Kenobi a significant contributor to Rey’s Force back in VII so it seems possible.

Their alternate names are both Ben. It'll be like Martha from BvS. "It's like poetry. It rhymes."

No but really it seems they'd have to choose between Lando or Obi-Wan. Either pick one or one of them would have to be a cameo so it doesn't get crowded again with past-gen heroes. And honestly at this point it's hard to see what use Obi-Wan would really have.

 

It’s not hard to see at all if the surprise of the ST ends up being that it starred the grandson of Anakin & the previously unknown granddaughter of Kenobi both uniting in the end & finding balance, ensuing both of those popular family lines live on in the EU and future episodes beyond IX.

JJ specifically made two choices he didn’t have to related to Kenobi in the Force back already for TFA.

 

I hope we get Hayden as well if we get Ewan...

 

If we got Ewan without Hayden it would be outrageous and unfair.

 

At the very least I think he will just show up at the end like on Endor at the end of ROTJ.

 

We 100% need both at the end to seem happier with the new paths the grandchildren seem to be on by the end of IX.

I hope Ewan appears to Rey when she realizes one of her real parents had the Kenobi last name & that the junkers just found her in a wreck and that Anakin watches Ben Solo once he begins to atone for all he’s done and by being on the Light side gets to see his actual grandfather for the first time, too.

There’s some potential for some nice grandparental moments here if they pull it off well.

Clone Wars Flashbacks when

 

If this pans out as a reason to make Rey a Kenobi, I'll be disappointed.

 

I will be thrilled. It’s what I’ve wanted a long time.

 

Well Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda appearing in IX would hardly be unexpected.

Anakin should have already been in TLJ above Yoda (since that would have made way more sense than anything done with him) but I'm glad he wasn't because of the movie.

At this point I don't see anything that could make any real sense of this trilogy but they are going to do whatever they are going to do that in their own minds actually does something.

Ah so Kenobi shows up to tell Rey that her parents were nobody...from a certain point of view.

 

PLEASE BE TRUE. I'm still a huge fan of the "Rey Kenobi" theory.

1) What a great twist it would be after TLJ. Her parents were no one...but her grandfather was Obi-Wan Kenobi. Granddaughter of Obi-Wan facing off against the grandson of Anakin -- a perfect way to end the 9-part Skywalker saga.

2) That "pointless" and misunderstood Canto Bight subplot takes on so much more importance. If Rey is a Kenobi, then it's Broom Boy (Temiri Blagg) who represents the great talents that come from nothing. And who inspired him and gave him hope? The "pointless" and misunderstood character, Rose Tico.

3) It would set up an Obi-Wan movie perfectly. Who did Obi-Wan fall in love with? How? What happened to her? So much dramatic potential.

Because Ewan-as-Obi-Wan was the only voice who spoke to Rey directly in her Force vision, I assumed JJ wanted to make her a Kenobi. And I think Kathleen Kennedy let Rian do his thing in TLJ because JJ could always come back and make the final decision (rendering TLJ's non-reveal a great fake-out in the process).

 

Kenobi showing up and announcing that he’s Rey’s dad or grandpa would be like Maul showing up in Solo except ten times more confusing. Don’t do it JJ!

 

You know what if it means I get to see Ewan as Obi-Wan and get my Kenobi movie. I'm all for it.

You know what's going to happen? Rey IS obi-wan Kenobi. 'Strike me down and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.'

Well, who is more powerful than Rey? ? He learned a lot from Qui-Gon beyond the netherworld.

Snoke. He talked to Rey using Obi Wans voice. I am pretty sure Snoke was Obi Wan reborn

 

Honestly Rey being a Kenobi would almost make too much sense. it would also work with the overall 9 film story to basically have the grandson of Anakin and the granddaughter of Kenobi conflicting.

Although personally i dunno if believe they would bring Ewan back as Force ghost. i could definitely see a point where they wouldn't wanna overshadow Alec Guinness, just like when they did Rebels episode where they did a Guinness impression.

First thing that popped into my head was a flashback.

 

I agree with the flashback idea as that is what I first thought when I read this. Not sure I want Rey Kenobi.

 

This sequel trilogy really should feel like a next generational story. but there is no point making these films if the idea is just to start fresh with new characters to close off the 9 film ending the skywalker story.

These 9 films really need to feel connected, and Episode 7 felt like it threw in a dozen mystery boxes that could do that... then episode 8 decided to close them all and start afresh... and now episode 9 feels abit empty.
