I never liked theories about a love triangle between Ani-Padme-Obi but after finishing the PT, I'm inclined to tinker with a toned down version. More like an interesting mutual respect and a closeness in fate without them actually ever spending much time together.
In AOTC, if you watch closely, Padme always has a bemused/fascinated look on her face whenever someone breathes "Obi". I'm not suggesting infatuation, rather that she seems really taken with the Jedi re:eek:biWan.
This is probably because of "warm feelings" in her heart towards them leftover from their rescue of her in TPM etc., though she remains sorta cold towards Mace & Yoda, who were not personally involved.
The look when Palpatine suggests Obi could protect her; when Ani talks about his life w/Obi during packing scene and later, during Naboo dinner. I also noted that Padme is quiet & concerned during Ani's confession until he starts bad-talking Obi Wan. Then there's an edge in her voice, very unsypathetic, when she says "What's WRONG, Anakin?" Also, how naturally she insists on saving Obi in Geonisis; I'm sure she would care no matter who it was, but the way she emphasizes it being Obi Wan in danger is sweet. I know Obi takes on more importance for her because of Anakin's relationship but kind of in a personal way. It's like Obi is Ani & Padme's "mutual friend" or is it the other way around?
For ObiWan's side there are also examples,e.g. his delight when he says "She WAS happy to see us", which was mainly for his friend Anakin's benefit yet I think was emphatic enough to show his own pleasure, too.
Anyway, all this got raised becoz of ROTS, which sort of shows that whatever gentle friendship exists between ObiWan & Padme is certainly without Anakin's encouragement. Also, I thought it was touching that it was Obi Wan who was there to rescue her on Mustafar (sort of) and to hold her hand during childbirth. It was also ObiWan whom Padme trusted with the secret marraige and whom Padme worried for during the Jedi betrayal.
They're only acquiantances when you think of screen time together but their fates are so enmeshed...both of them loving & betrayed by Ani. They also are the "innocents" (a sincere politician and a sincere Jedi) who made the mistakes which helped form Vader.
:) Hey, I know I'm probably obsessing over meaningless occurences, but I like Obi Wan, and I'm quite interested in other SW characters' opinions/feelings towards him.

It's a nice fantasy, one that I've daydreamed about from time to time. [face_blush] I love their scenes together in both AOTC and ROTS, they are wonderful thoughts of "what if's" and "they should have been the ones to hook up instead of her and the Chosen Spawn." But the sad truth is Padmé had to have 2 babies and Anakin, hang on to your tummies, had to be the one to impregnate her. [face_sick]

As for Obi-wan, he was a dedicated and serious-minded Jedi, and would never allow himself to be distracted from his duty by love interests or triangle entanglements. I'm not talking about any EU affairs he may or may not have had, I'm talking strictly canon here.

Well, yes, I agree whole-heartedly. :) Padme and Anakin were definitely meant to be together and are devoted to each other. As for Obi Wan, he's devoted to the Jedi, the Republic, and his friends. I know there's no affair, thank God. :) but I'm thinking in terms of "beautiful friendships".
In ways, Padme and Obi Wan suit better than her and Ani. But by their nature, they would never have gotten together, even if Ani didn't exist. There's no passion.
I know I sound romantic but I'm not actually talking "romance" (I think). I'm just trying to piece together the trio's relationships post-viewing ROTS and dawdling over Obi & Padme's because I personally think theirs can be hard to define. Yeah, they're friends, but why? She spent so much more time w/Qui-Gon in TPM. Obi is almost entirely a matter of mental associations w/her: he's connected to Jedi and Anakin and heroism.
Anybody else interested in their feelings?

I think that Obi-Wan is a liar and always had a thing for Padme.

That's roughly the same opinion I've always held of Obi-Wan and Padme.

There's mutual respect, and a sort of affection between them. Not "I want to get into your robes" sort of affection, but we know Obi-Wan has some attachment to Anakin, so maybe as EXTREMELY watered-down version of that to Padme.

Padme proved to be a good and judicious leader at a young age. Obi-Wan has guided Anakin, once a friend and now a lover, through the years, for which I'm sure she's somewhat grateful. They have some similar characteristics, but most importantly, they have Anakin. They may also be, outside of Palpatine and maybe Yoda, the only people who really see Anakin as a human, and how just another Jedi or even The Chosen One.

Ther is a mutual friendship between them. Even though Padme spent more time with Qui Gon.. he died. And Obi Wan was QG's padwan so they have a link there. They would be good friends with or without Anakin but their friendship is stronger probably becasue they are two people who both care about Anakin very much.

This is why I'm praying that George Lucas puts the deleted scene of Obi-Wan and Padme's meeting on the DVD as one of the 5-6 deleted scenes. They do have a deep friendship and both care for Anakin.

Also, I'd love to see the reinserted dialogue in the birth sequence when he tells her that she has twins and that she needs to hang on.

I have seen photos floating around of Obi-Wan and Padme hugging and him kissing her on the cheek. The photos look like they come from a scene in ROTS when they are meeting. Is that one of the cut scenes? Demonstrating so much affection, no wonder the scene was cut and no wonder Anakin is jealous!

    No. NO OBIDALA. Just...no.

Padme's waaay too naive for Obi-Wan's taste.
