Sorry but this has been bothering me since the release of AOTC.

Fair enough in TPM Obi is a clean shaven Padawan and the growth of 'the beard' was always inevitable for Episode 2.

It's great watching the transformation of this great charachter (my personal fave!) through to Episode 3's astonishingly lookalike Mr'Guiness twin.

So why couldn't they've made the effort to keep his beard the same shape throughout AOTC.I can't be the only one to notice that in a third of Ewan's scenes one second he has a corker of a natural thick beard the next it looks like he's glued on a furball and half of it has dissolved!!!!

I know these are from re-shoots but hopefully the make-up department will click on EP 3.Am I over critical of 'the beard' does it really stand out to the point of total infuriation?

They're from the reshoots that were done while Ewan was also filming Black Hawk Down.

I noticed this the second Obi-Wan popped on the scene. He did regrow it for some reshoots, like the inside of the Rebpulic Gunship, and later it was glued on. I sure hope they make him grow it back for Episode III reshoots. I'll be sure to make an issue of that if he ever does a chat.

The part I never understood is why they reshot the part outside the Outlander club: in the trailer, it looks natural, in the film, it looks fake.

I've always noticed that his beard, and hair in general, appear to look different from scene to scene. The club is the one instance that comes to mind first...Also, when he's in Dex's Diner, after they've finished speaking, he smiles, and his face and beard look altered from the previous shot.

Not to get off AOTC topic, but in TPM he ducks, and his wet hair is suddenly more puffed up and dry.

The contrasting appearance wanes near the middle and end of AOTC, though.

Not that I'm complaining. He always looks.... [face_love]

Yes in TPM one minute he's almost got a crew cut the next he looks like he been caught in his hairdryer!!!

On Kamino when he's sat with the Prime Minister it really does my head in!The glowing effect in the room makes him look ill for half those scene's!!!

Pleeeeaaassse Ewan have your proper facial fuzz for the re-shoots?!!!!

This would've never happened if they just said, "NO BEARD!" ;)

Ewan's appearance when they do the pick-up shots is a concern of mine. As mentioned in the above posts, there are time in AOTC where the inconsistencies in the beard are obvious and this also applies to his Jedi mullet. The scenes shot in 2000 are Ewan's natural hair but the pick-up shots required a wig that has a different appearance (thinner hair maybe, different parting position). This also applied to TPM, where the yeras gap in shooting is noticable in Ewan's appearance. I know its only a minor point to be grumbling about but a lot of the shots do stand out. Perhaps the inconsistencies will be eradicated in E3 by the utilisation of Ewan's digital double. With the phenomenal work of ILM on the hulk, could we see a close up shot of the digital Ewan, with hair and beard intact?

    It's not a beard, it's road-kill that attched itself to Ewan's face. :p

But yeah, when I was watching AOTC for the first time I noticed that his Jedi mullet and the road-kill seemed to look diferent in every scene. I sure hope we don't see the same problem in episode III.

I actually didn't notice anything wrong with Ewan's beard until someone pointed it out to me. Now it's like the Emperor's slugs; I can't not see it anymore.

Is that why his face always looks messed up? I dunno about you, but in every scene, Obi-Wans face looks different; like they digitally altered his face or something. take the "This weapon is your life" scene for example, he just doesnt look human in that scene, his face is all lit funny and his head looks cuboid!

Can someone please point out these slugs?

In any scene where we have a closeup of Palpatine's head while he's sitting in his chair, look at the edge of his robe, right by his right eye (our left). You'll see a small black patch clearly different from the bluish coloring of his robe. The black patch wiggles a little bit, which is why they're called the Emperor's Slugs.

The reason that they're there is because the spotlight shining on Ian's face to give his eyes that eery look spilled over a little bit onto his robe.

I have never noticed Obi-Wan's beard looking different.

I hate the Emperor's slugs. They're impossible not to see!
