Obiwan's Jedi Insignia

Obiwan wears a Jedi insignia on his shoulders, almost similar to the Rebel's flag. Prior to the force unleashed, this rebel like insignia was once an older flag of a much older Government of the Republic and probably based off (or the other way around) the Jedi's insignia which shows the insignia of a Lightsaber and it's glow.


Now these might have been the cause for the Rebels to use this as their flag...


..But after the Force Unleashed came out, the insignia the Rebel's used was merely a family crescent. Therfor the ideas of that crescent becoming the Rebel insignia as it was based off the Jedi insignia, are now non-canon, why is it that Obiwan is wearing the "old Jedi Insignia" that original sources said that this was what the Rebel's based their flag on?

A paradox of sorts.

 

There is no paradox. Obi-Wan is wearing an old Jedi insignia. The Rebel symbol was based on the Marek family crest. In the Star Wars universe there are several similar unrelated symbols, such as those of the Old Republic and the CIS. The assumption that the Rebel symbol was based on the Jedi logo was just that, an assumption.

 

Who's to say they are mutually exclusive? Marek's family were Jedi, if I remember correctly. Why couldn't the Marek family crest derive from the Jedi emblem? Wouldn't that also give the Rebel insignia an even deeper meaning?

 

Yes, sure. It's feasible to believe both symbols are related somehow.
