Star Wars: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction - A Novel of the Old Republic
    <img src="http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/covers_450/9780345477361.jpg">

    Release Date: September 26th
    Hardcover, 336 pages
    Price: $25.95

    Randomhouse Description:
Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy. Until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy, and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith, and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.

Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape, a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.

On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army, and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel's brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy, if he can prove himself truly worthy.

As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure . . . especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival. Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

I'm really angry that I'm #2 in the hold list for this at my library.

Anyways, I'm anticipating it to be the best book since Outbound Flight at the very least.

As the mayor of my hometown used to say, "progress as promised" Thanks T2Q.

I cannot wait for this book. FINALLY, a novel in a completly new era (in terms of novels anyway), not the same post NJO or PT era stuff. I'm stoked!

I really can't wait for this book, especially since I haven't read Jedi vs. Sith or Bane of the Sith, and want to know more about this guy.

I am thoroughly excited for this book. It will be the first SW novel I purchase since Dark Lord, since I've steered clear of LOTF and Outbound Flight can wait until it's released in softcover. This, however, cannot wait. I've been waiting for an Old Republic novel since the first Essential Chronology came out.

I dug the except that was posted awhile back, with the fight in the mine. Looking forward to the book, and especially what it will touch upon from JVS and, in particular, Rain/Zannah.

In fact, I'll have to make a note of rereading JVS and BOTS after I'm done with Bloodlines before this comes out, to refresh my memory.

I'm curious how you'd get a book contract with such a publishing history, skeptical the lifetime progression wil pace the book too fast, but admit to being interested.

Having to wait a year, though, sort of nortons the flavour. :(

The only paperback that matters is when Malazan 6: The Boneunters comes out. All other concerns are hedonistic.

The large paperback of Bonehunters came out at the same time as the hardback in the UK, Ex, I have a copy.

The paperback I'm waiting for is Reaper's Gale!

Oh, sorry, did you mean small paperback?

    ;)

Seriously you ought to consider the large paperback format especially given the size of Bonehunters - Amazon UK is flogging it for just over £8.50, even with post to Oz it can't be a bad price. The small PB will officially retail at £7.99, if not £8.99 so why not?

(Not sure how this converts to aussie dollars)

I'll tell you how it converts to $AUD. It converts expensively. *shakes fist* I was considering importing it, but the Malazan books have always been priced $3-5 more than usual paperbacks. I'm currently waging the mightiest fortitude save of my life: patience vs @#$%*! :p

I was hesitant to get the first book---so expensive!---but I inadvertantly walked into someone's book signing, my first, it was raining women and they were coming up to me and chatting, and the Force was with me, that I suddenly spotted the damn thing amongst innumerable hundreds. Grabbed it, hyperspaced it out.

Midnight Tides ended with Mael in a mood to punch the Crippled Dude. I want to see how that eventuates. I hear Reaper's Gale returns to the Letherii continent. :D

I'll probably have to do so store reading with the Bane book. I'm thinking there could be a link between the Black Plague book and this one. I knew since reading Phantom Menace there was going to be exploration in "George's Sith era", and now we're seeing it. Books like these are testing the waters, I think. Looking forward to weaving the tapestry.

From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!

    Erm....right, anyways:

The book sounds pretty cool, I wish we could see more in the cover art, but meh, it's alright I guess.

I hope that they'll continue making Old Republic novels, that's an era with plenty of years to cover after all.

The whole ANOTOR subtitle makes me think they will. They can use the ANOTOR subtitle to tie the Old Republic books together so they don't seem as much like a bunch of ancient history one-shots.

Is Bane human or Falleen because he looks slightly like Xizor with a pasty face and his high cheek bones

Hmm... has the plot for Path of Destruction already leaked? I was browsing Wookie earlier and happened to see the Darth Bane article has undergone huge changes since I last saw it.

Is anyone who's less worried about being totally spoiled able to comment on what's up on Wookie? I'm not sure whether to read it or not depending on whether it's really the full plot or just pieces assembled from the previews we've already seen.

Much of it is indeed threaded from known sources to garment one article. It's heavily fertilised from that cartoonish-looking comic, Jedi vs Sith.
