Princess Leia was obviously an integral part in the theft of the Death Star plans in ANH.

So it would make sense for her to make at least a cameo in Rogue One, don't you think?

In this case, how will it be done? Recasting? De-aging Carrie Fisher?

I think she'll be recast. If they ever want to use the young Leia character in the future or even make a feature about her (I'm still hoping it will happen), they'd have an actress they could go to.

I think Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd would look Leia-like enough for a quick cameo at the end of the movie, if she dyes her hair or wears a wig.

I'm not fully convinced about that.

In the particular case of Princess Leia they could almost cast anyone as long as it's a white costume and her hairdo watched from the back, IMHO.

Everybody would instantly recognize the Leia character without showing her face.

    Well, on second thought:

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes that she's in it. I get the feeling that if she weren't in it we would all feel like something was missing. She was way up in hierarchy of the rebellion as well as being on the front lines. She knew Tarkin and Vader well enough to feel comfortable being rude to them on their own turf. She's too big of a deal to be left out of this diplomatic mercy mission to Alderaan.

I kinda doubt she had an active role in the theft of the Death Star plans. It seems she can't actively support the rebellion because Alderaan needs to maintain plausible deniability. If anything I think it'll be a cameo at the end or something.

Agree. Leia would if anything be spending most of her time being a imperial senate and diplomat. She would not be involved with the actual planning and retrieving of it. I do think Leia could make a couple cameos particularly at the end where she is given the disc that had the plans on it then begins to try and figure a way of smuggling them back home so the rebels can get it.

I think that she might very well cameo at the very end, to set up for the opening of ANH. IDK that that's a certainty, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me (especially since Vader is allegedly going to be in it as well).

Hmm, I think she'll be mentioned but not seen on screen in Rogue One.

Remember that the plans were beamed to the Tantive IV? I'm wondering if the final scene will be of the Tantive IV in space, switch to the Flight Deck where a technician declares "We have received the data from Rogue One" and then the Commanding Officer says "Good, I will inform the Captain and the Princess."

Doubt it. I bet we'll see the Tantive IV passing by as our surviving protagonists beam the plans in the knick of time.

So, we end the movie with the sight of the Tantive IV receiving the plans to link us into the start of ANH? Not much different from what I said then....

    Nice! How about this:

We switch to the flight deck of Tantive IV where a technician turns around and says "Princess, we have received the data from Rogue One", and all we see from Leia is her back as she answers "Very good, commander". Then she turns her face to look towards the window, and we can finally see Leia's face a little bit. Lastly, Leia says "Now there's a new hope for the rebellion." THE END

I thought "a new hope" was a reference to a person (Luke) rather than a new hope for the Alliance. [face_dunno]

Maybe Leia makes a brief cameo at the very end of the movie.

I don't think it would be a good idea to put Leia in the movie.

But it would be a good idea to put an older Bail Organa.

They could easily use Billie Lourd in one of the closing scenes.

Something along the lines of handing the plans over to her, with her in the classic white dress, hair dyed brown in the double bun style, hood up, only a glimpse of her face. No lines, or minimal lines.

I have to wonder if a lot of people's skepticism has less to do with it not making sense for her to be here, and more to do with, well not wanting Carrie to be recast?

Minus the "new hope" line (I would just have her say something like "now we finally have a chance"), that would be a killer ending, IMO. Well done.
