Welcome to the Official Lightsaber Sound FX Thread!

This thread was created for everyone as interested in sound work and lightsaber sound as I am to come discuss the craft, post sound edits, show off your specific lightsaber sound library, and more. If you're the type that downloads a lightsaber sound pack but wonders what more sounds there really are(continued rambling), a sound design geek, or you just plain want more lightsaber sounds, you can discuss them all in this thread.

Permission to create this thread given by DVeditor, AdamBertocci, and DorkmanScott.

Now, let's discuss Lightsaber Sound FX!

I'm just going to begin things by recommending some lightsaber sound packs. These are some of my favorite sound packs and I recommend taking a look at them.

    Lightsabers
A wonderfully made lightsaber sound pack by Nick Jushchyshyn. This pack has absolutely everything you need to begin your lightsaber sound FX journey. There are many wonderful sounds in this library that are must haves for fan films, and as a bonus, the creator also threw in a sound clip from The Phantom Menace, the fight between Obi and Maul. Plenty of wonderful sounds in this library as well as the fight sound clip. If you don't have this one, download it.

    EPsabers6hi
A lighsaber sound pack created by neo_mp5. I'd say the equivalent of Nick Jushchyshyn's sound pack. Wonderful sounds, different from Nick's, there are plenty of lightsaber sounds for plenty of different uses. Likewise with Nick's, a must have.

    Lightsaber Sound F/X
A nicely put together pack by Chris Fergo. There are 50 different sounds in here for almost anything a lightsaber does. Good for beginning, use these until you get Nick's, because there are the same in Nick's but more.

    jediclash
A small lightsaber sound pack featuring high quality lightsaber clashes from Episode VI. Ripped from the Star Wars Trilogy Bonus Features DVD by me without background music(a lightsaber sound ripper and editor's dream), these clashes are unique and are worth taking a look at for any fan film.

    40sabreon
A complete lightsaber ignition sound pack featuring 40 differents lightsaber ignitions. I going to say to download this one, because there are a lot of cool sounding ignitions in there. Check it out.

    OnOff
A small sound pack with a couple saber ignitions and retractions. It may be small, but it's definately worth downloading.

    BlocksClashes
A lightsaber pack containing only saber clashes. There are a lot of good clashes in here, so take a look.

    Saber Clashes-by Dako
I hate recommending my own sound pack, but I see it has 92 downloads on the Sound Bunker Mirror, so I'm going to recommend it. An out of date version of my lightsaber library. Over 200 lightsaber clash sounds, and a couple others as well. They are, unfortunately, not of the highest quality, because I've not that good of a sound editor yet. I will update it soon.

But, if you're every not finding what you're looking for, you can probably find it here: The Sound Bunker (Mirror Project)

Cool work on that sound, neo! Not only the lightsabers, but the whole clip itself. Maybe you can give the Agents of the Force-crew some tipps for their next projects? [face_batting]

Here is something I threw together some time ago. I was just testing to do lightsabers hums completely on my own. I think it is at least some kind of start! But it still sounds, well, a bit damped, like it is stored inside a box or something. lol

I think you just made that fight about 10x better than it was.

i'm still amazed it worked at all. i made a huge mistake, i should have put the music on first, then did the sounds over it, but i wanted to hear the sounds alone. i put in all kinds of detail to the sound, and when i put music over it, it became incredibly noisy. no matter what i tried, it was cluttered and crackly. then i suddenly thought "screw the techno, i'm going to SCORE this thing". fortunately dn davis' matrix score used gestures instead of themes, which can be cut apart and rearranged to fit a scene.

Here's one now. This is from the begining of the film when they land on the ship

Edit: Neo, I love the green in that film. What are your color settings?

Hm, would no-one like to give me feedback about my sounds? The last time I've given it to people, I was told it sounds like wasps on steroids. I was so positive to get some nicer feedback here. [face_worried]

P.S.: Filefront isn't the fastest server, is it?

For the record guys, that's not Neo in that film. He just re-did the sound from one of the choreography entries.
(No offense, Neo.. but credit where credit is due, ya know?)

When I finally start re-mixing Eclipse, you can bet I'll come here.

And that would be WHEN exactly, Spiff?

yes, nothing you SEE in that video is mine (except the big black box around it, premiere did that, and i don't know why). but i did do the sounds with the permission of the author. he also sent me the original audio from the set, which runs all through the hand to hand fight.

This thread's just for the sounds, guys. That fight's from the last Lightsaber Choreography Contest, entry 1. Go to Sabercomp.com for more info, or check out the thread that's already devoted to it. Neo didn't make the scene itself, just did the sound design--a user named Centius, I believe it was, did the scene with a partner who I'm not sure of the name of.

if it was mine, the guy with the double blade would have held it properly.

Not entirely sure what you mean by that...but whatever. Snarkiness aside, good job on the sound design. We all knew you had to be good at SOMEthing.

he holds the double blade like a regular sabre, just with his hands farther apart. there's primary blade and a secondary blade. a double blade is supposed to be a horizontal weapon, held with both thumbs facing the centre of the hilt.

    so much for "snarkiness aside"
