Great special effects, mediocre acting and dialogue. A lot kewler than TPM, but still doesn't approach the original trilogy.

Christopher Lee is cool, the end battle is big, but there's nothing approaching the Imperial Badassitudinalness of Darth Vader or the Executor, no chilling revelations, few memorable quips, and Jango Fett, who seemed a decent guy, gets a really raw deal.

I place it second to Empire Strikes Back in my SW Favs List.

Acting: Ranging from terrible to great. Hayden plays the sullen teenager very well, IMO, but Nathalie....my God. Sometimes a log in a dress could put on a more convincing performance. The scene between Padme and Anakin right before they enter the arena was really brilliant though. Great acting, and actually pretty good writing, on both their parts. Oh, and Ewan now owns the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Alec Guiness is no longer the true embodiment of that character, in my mind. He was fantastic in this.

Special Effects: Brilliant. Did you expect anything else? Beyond anything that ILM has ever done. If this doesn't win the Oscar, I'll be seriously pissed.

Action Scenes: The battles were cool, but the lightsaber fights, with the exception of Yoda (OMG!), were a bit disappointing.

    What Was Good:

    -Ewan as Obi-Wan
    -Yoda fighting with a lightsaber
-Sam Jackson. God that guy is cool.
    -Jango Fett. Cool character.
-The respective planets. All looked absolutely gorgeous.
-Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus- Chris Lee is freaking awesome. This character was fantastic.
-Palpatine. This guy solidified his place as the best villain in history, literary or cinematic. He was incredible.

    What Didn't Work:

-The Romance. Sadly, it just felt so contrived. One second Padme was "No! Absolutely Not! We can't!" and the next it was "I love you." Wha? What happened here?
-Jango's Death. Don't get me wrong. Windu cutting off people's heads is great. But it last all of about 15 seconds, and then Jango was the the Headless Hunter.
-Count Dooku's lack of screen time. The guy was the coolest character in the freaking movie, and we got to see him hardly at all. Oh well. At least he was more than a pretty action piece like Darth Maul was.

Overall, I give it a B+. I'm willing ot forgive the shoddy romance because it IS SW after all.

You see it on digital or regular? Is regular "fuzzy" as Ebert says so? The previews I saw in the theatre looked good...

I've already been spoiled silly, so my neighbor and I are going to wait a week or so to see it. I'm pretty sure I'll be blown out of my seat nevertheless :D I figure I'll take the opportunity to pay a visit to ol' Carlynton High School (aka Hell) while Wookiee Hooky slows things down so I can remind myself why I was so glad to graduate and head to UM. :p

Ugh. I was afraid that the romance would seem fake. Even while reading the novelization it feels...dry. I haven't seen the movie yet, but, from what I've read on this thread, the book is far better. At least, story-wise.
I wasn't that impressed with the book either. [face_plain]

    Maybe I'm just too critical? Nah...that can't be it. I mean, I absolutely loved Spider-Man! :D

Speaking of which, did anyone else notice that you could like totally see Dunst's nipples in the alley scene? I was thinking, "Doesn't she wear a bra! Kids are watching this movie, too! And there she is, showing off her strangely large nipples!" [face_laugh]

It was weird. I didn't expect that. Mary Jane seemed so slutty in the movie. [face_plain]

Another thing that bothered me about AotC-

-3PO's hideous dialogue. Man, Lucas has lost all ability to give any sort of charm to 3PO's incessant nagging and ranting. Case in point, when he's being drug through the sand by his decapitated head, much to my dismay he utters these words...

"Oh this is such a drag."

Upon being deposited next to his body, it gets even worse...

    "I'm absolutely beside myself."

    [face_barf]

It's almost as if Lucas got 90% done with the script, and went "Oh my Gosh! There is no 3PO/R2 banter! I'd better fix that!"

The last 15 minutes are riddled with "Don't talk back to me you silly bucket of bolts!" type lines. It is waaaaaaaay overkill.

My question: Where did the Republic get the transports and the gunships from? If they had no army, why would they have these things kicking around? Or did the Kaminoins have them? You know, buy 10,000 clone troopers and get a free transport and gunship.

I had no problem with the rain scene in the alley in Spider-Man. In fact, I had no problems with Spider-Man of any kind. It was a HELL of a lot of fun.

Loved it. Great flick. Wish I could have seen more of the prosthesis they put on Anakin. All you see at the very end is a gold han coming through his robe.

Tyranus. WOW. Whooped Obi then took nearly all of Anakins right arm. But then he got the true Master. Yoda. Man. That scene was awesome. "Strong have you become my old Padawan!" Great line from Yoda. And he shows some malice. Not the all thoughtful knowledgeable peaceful Master, but a commander. Leading the troops into battle. Kit Fisto is a badass. Jango getting decapitated by Mace, while quick, shows how good Mace is supposed to be. Jango had already killed one Jedi who had attempted to attack Dooku. Then he did this western style gun spin and holstered it. Pretty cool. Effects were great. Zam was barely in it. Then she gets whacked.

Love story. Well. It's star wars. The forbidden love trailer and such had people thinking this movie would be a whole big love story. I'm glad it wasn't.

The clones. When Obi's inspecting them they're being fit with armor and helmets and loaded into transports and such on Kamino. So I guess Kamino provided everything for them.

Death Star plans now originate from Geonosis. Guess they had Bevel Lemelisk stashed away somewhere there.

Overall I give it an A-, felt it could have been a little longer, shown more of anakin going dark then just slaughtering the tuskens. Surprised Padme was so comforting and loving to him after he had told her that he slaughtered them. But I'll see it again this weekend, heh, maybe tomorrow even.

Been there. Saw it. Enjoyed it. A lot.

The only real complaint I have is that it was too short. ;)

No really, I thought that the final battle of Geonosis was too short. So many things, and so little screen time. :(

But otherwise, it's really really great. :D

Only one thing bothered me about the love story. It was a bit artificial at the beginning, that is, too fast. But otherwise it was fine IMO. Maybe because I like cliché-like stories. :) Not that I found it especially cliché-like, but some people said so...

3PO Scenes were alright. Funny and... interesting. :)

Yoda fighting. OMG !!! As I said earlier, too bad it didn't last a bit longer. :) The crowd was cheering in the theater, I'd never thought it'd happen here in Switzerland. I'm proud of my dellow felegates... err... fellow fans.

Both new planets looks really really great. Love the hues of Geonosis, especially during the battle, and absolutely LOVE Kamino's etheral aspect.

Some great forshadowing lines (and funny, from a certain point of view), especially from Palpatine. Cool, very cool.

CORUSCANT. I once said in a thread that my favorite planet was Coruscant. Now that I have seen the movie, my belief that Coruscant would definitively be THE SW planet I want to live on is very reinforced. Just love that ambiance. Teeming with life.

Sonic charges. Love the "sound". :)

The film sets up very well the next chapter, which will definitively tie the prequels with the classic movies. And the movie clearly ends on a cliffhanger, even if it's not as visible as the ESB one.

Overall, it rocks. I will have to see it more of course to be able to place it in my fav scale, but it's definitively not last. :)

Oh, and I enjoyed the fact that my sellow fpectators were mostly fans. It really helped getting into the whole 'event' thing. (Even if there was only a Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper, who must be the lone French swiss member of the 501st. ;) )

It was cool to see TPM again right before it on a big screen. This time, I paid rather good attention to the background action... And OMG the ILM guys are geniuses. There's so much there going on in the background... Loved how the "Ratts Tyrell" were EVERYWHERE (including in AotC ;) ).

Finally, I got to see the movie six hours before the first US screening. That was cool, but of course I don't expect you American guys to understand. :p ;)

EDIT : Oh, and I was first in line, but I arrived only 1h30 before the movie :p

It's good. It's really smeggin' good.

    Heres why:

The start really threw me, the cloudy Coruscant. For some reason I'd never imagined cloud on Coruscant. But the shot looked more like it belonged in a fantasy film. Still looked good tho.

Zam Wessel's face flutters during the chase.

    Crash landing after speeder chase.

Palpatine maneuvering Amidale into the Jedi's protection.

Any time Obi-Wan or Count Dooku are on screen.

    Yoda and the younglings.

Jar Jar making the biggest blunder of his career.

    Seismic bombs (tinitus causing :)

    Kit Fisto

    Big green monster.

    Attack of the clones

Threepio/battle droid sketch. Oooh, I was dreading this and guess what. It's pretty cool. "Life's a drag" and "I'm beside myself are a bit OTT but the rest IS funny.

God so so much about this was cool. Yoda fighting Dooku. Asteroid field chase. Everything!

Well almost, here's what i had issues with:

The love story. Well played and acted out and written. But the concept of Padme falling in love with someone who's just confessed to being a psychotic mass murderer is just ridicolus.

    Darth Whiney.

    Yoda's deep voice.

    jango's lame death

Mace's fighting style. Very bland. Just waves his saber side to side. What happened to this unique style Samuel L's been on about.

Dooku on his speeder (just looks odd)

Kamino. Great on the outside, but the inside wa wierd. Like GL's personal vision of heaven.

Not seeing enough of Anakins replacement hand.

But, in summary. Go see, go love!!

Maybe that IS his style. I mean, I don't think he really knows how to swordfight. He's not a stuntguy. He's never swordfought in any other flicks (that I can recall). Oh well -- Sam Jackson with a saber is still badass, in my book. ;)

Gandolf! [face_shocked] I, for one, did NOT notice any nipples! I don't want to hear about another woman's nipples! If you have such impure, leacherous thoughts I do not want to see or hear about them! <Puts on a prude, stern face>

My friend at work has a friend who has close connections with the people who made AotC. He just got the movie on two DVDs from his friend this night. He's going to watch it after work, he said it has the finished special effects unlike some other smuggled out tapes.

Two discs? that would be VCD's NOT DVD's and probably pirated.

As far as Mace's fighting style, if you watched the video clip on TOS from April, I forget which one it's called, Sam talks about his style, and that it's not supposed to be really flashy or complex. Being that he's supposed to be the second badest Jedi in the galaxy next to Yoda he dispenses with his opponents quickly and efficiently thus why not so much flash and why he could behead Jango so easilly.

Question. There has been speculation of the years as to Boba Fett's braids. I think you guys know where I'm going with this. Especially taking in his banter with Vader in ESB after seeing clones. Boba watches a Jedi behead his "father". Think Fett aids in the purge? Seeing as the next episode is only 2 to 3 years after this one in the timeline he'd be too young still to really be shown in his mandalorian armor, so perhaps we'll read some PT-OT bridge novels that show Fett on a Jedi killing rampage. He definately had some sour looks for Obi-wan and enjoyed trying to kill him with his father aboard Slave I.

You might be right. I didn't pay much attention to him because me and the others want to see it in the theature. If you mean by pirated someone who went into the theature and taped the film I really don't think so. His friend got these DVDs ( or VCDs whatever) a few days ago, and AotC still hasn't been released here.

    I gave the movie about a C+

C-3po REALLY made annoyed! The battle was ment to be serious and when ever he came on screen it took away all the meaning from the battle.

The battle was to rushed IMO ecspecially Anikin/Obi-wan v's Dooku!

ALso George ruined the EU by having the Death star being designed on Genosios(sp)

but you never know Bevel Lemilisk could have been asked later to "finish" the design.
