When Threepio say this sentence at Cloud City: "Oh! Nice to see a familiar face." what/who does he mean?

Was it that he saw another 3PO unit, or was it the traitor from Tantive IV, U-3PO, he recogniced. Not that he knows U-3PO was the one who leaked information to the Empire, but they were both seen in the opening scene of "Star Wars".

I'm pretty sure it's the same droid seen in both scenes, but I could be wrong. (it had happened before)

    Any thoughts?

I think 3PO is happy to see another droid of his kind.

I think C-3PO knew it wasn't U-3PO. It just happens to be a droid that looks the same. I think the "Oh, nice to see a familiar face" was just Threepio trying to be funny, given the fact it's a droid that looks similar to himself. At least, that's the way I always interpreted it.

Yea, he meant that it was nice to see a droid that looked like he did.

Where do you find out that U-3PO is a traitor?

A while ago, it was a question in the OT trivia, who the traitor aboard Tantive was.

I have also asumed it was just because he saw another protocol droid, but last time I saw ESB, it made me think. (wonderful right ;))

put me down for "just because it's a protocol droid", too.

Hoth was the last time he saw another 3PO unit. What was that one called, anyway? K-3PO?

to clear up a few things...

    1. the protocol droid on the Tantive IV was U-3PO; this droid served in the Royal House of Alderaan's Diplomatic Corps. This droids programming was altered by Imperial spies to use this droid for espionage.

    2. the protocol droid at Cloud City is E-3PO; this droid was brought to Cloud City by the Empire. the empire used this droid as a translator for human to alien communications (isnt any protocol droid used for that tho? lol) This droid also relayed Carbonite chamber modifications to Ugloste - the head Ugnaut.

    3. 2 protocol droids(not including C-3PO) were present at the Echo Base; K-3PO and R-3PO. K-3PO is somewhat of a droid leader. This unit is in charge of the droid labor pools at Echo Base. R-3PO wad designed as a response to the threat of Imperial espionage droids.
