So I watched the Incredibles the other day, stayed until the credits were over(of course!) and at the very end, in the special thanks it said
    "OMNIDROID is ©LUCASFILM, LTD"
As I haven't seen anything about this anywhere, I wonder if it has some connection to one of the upcoming projects (Ep 3 or new Clone Wars season)? Or it might just be from one of LucasArts' newer computer games.

I think it's just a joke. When I first saw them on screen, they reminded me of this crab-like Masters of the Universe toy I had when I was younger that worked with a spinning mechanism, and that you stopped by hitting a red button on its side. At least,to me.

there is also some SW sounds if you listen very closely. I know you guys are gonna bash me because the sounds are done by Skywalker sound, so I might as well say it I KNOW THAT ALREADY.

It looks like the Omnidroid name is from the SW Galaxies computer game, so they needed Lucasfilm's permission to use it.

Fun trivia -- Pixar came out of a Lucasfilm investment (I forget if they were actually called Pixar at the time that they were working for LFL or not).

Anyway -- here's what Brad Bird has to say on the matter:

For some viewers that feeling lasts through the closing credits, where a notice that the term "Omnidroid" was used by permission of Lucasfilm Ltd. has prompted some fans to speculate that The Incredibles offers a sneak peak at a character from the next Star Wars film.

"No. No, no, no," Bird says with a laugh, when asked if the secret weapon has a secret of its own. "I like that they think that, but it's more the term 'droid' is Lucas and we made the term Omnidroid (and then got the OK as a courtesy). So, no, there's no sneak. But God bless those fans. They're crazy."

I guess LFL has some sort of hold on the use of ____droid for commercial use?

Speaking of the Omnidroid, some of its features reminded me of that "droid" called Maximillian, from the Disney space-age movie called The Black Hole.

Droid - yeah, Lucas made that up, like Who Framed Roger Rabbit? gave the world "toon" for "cartoon"

and now that is accepted in the world.

    So there you go.

So does this mean that anyone who uses the word "Android" has to have permission from Georgie Boy? I wonder if Gene Roddenberrys estate can get some coin from Old Man George using the term "cloaking device".

    From www.technovelgy.com:

Unique to the Star Wars universe LucasFilms has a trademark on it, so you are unlikely to see it elsewhere), this contraction has entered the common language of science fiction.

The only reasonable derivation of the word "droid" is from "android" which means "having human features." However, in the Star Wars universe, the term droid is always used to describe mechanical robots; not all of them have recognizable human shapes. One robot that is human-shaped is C-3PO (See Threepio).
